I don't doubt that if the thread had never existed, we wouldn't have as many flame wars, but you can only shift the blame back so far. We don't go around blaming the Sun for World War II, yet without the Sun, WWII would never have happened. It's the same thing here; Napo's thread wasn't supposed to start a flame war; it was intended as a joke, and when it started getting out of hand, he asked for it to be locked. That behaviour alone should exempt him for any blame.

If you want to put the blame on someone, put it on the people who took the joke too seriously, and misread our intentions (and continue to misread our intentions). I'm standing by the staff on this one, and I'm glad 99% of our members are as well. We will not apologize for a joke, especially one that took place on April Fools Day.

This whole thing has become insane.. People had problems. people explained them. Staff responded.

Personally I think no harm was meant. Carrying this on is just daft. Clearly its going nowhere. If everyone just chilled out and discussed it in a calm way maybe whatever people have issues with can be sorted. What would the staff have to gain from alienating people on here? Its been blown way out of proportion and is now getting childish.

Thats my 32p and a 1917's penny's worth.
