I think it's supposed to be to do with free will that we can allow things like high child mortality, death, destruction, rape or whatever, or stop it if we want. The whole freedom thing.

With souls.. I dunno, there are a lot of humans so one would imagine that within Christian thinking there are also a lot of souls.

Quite when the soul evolved is a different matter of course! lol o.O
