There are probably a lot more.
All of these except for 4.

5 is the only one I'm onboard with. Seriously, you wouldn't take a million easy to off the next Pol Pot Shell? Gimme 20 bucks and a plane ticket -and I get to keep the rifle, I do love me a good trophy-.

I don't think I could, Rhythm. Unless I was immediately threatened, I doubt I would have the nerve to kill anyone.

Most sane people feel the same. In the last century (at least) most soldiers ,on all sides, went through wars without killing anyone. By 'most' I mean about 80%.

Oh come now, you'd get used to it.
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word

Let's hope that number goes up and wars become fought with words.

I would expect that the 80% figure is combat troops, not soldiers in general (a large percentage of whom are not in combat positions). The amount of small arms ordnance expended per casualty is staggering. Not that I'm complaining about efficiency, mind you.
I too hope for a day where we are free of war, though I do not expect to see it happen in my lifetime.

The doctrine of overwhelming firepower doesn't look to good from the perspective of the one counting rounds downrange (and their cost) but from the perspective of the soldier hiding behind (and contributing to) a hail of metallic objects, the view is likely different, eh? Pull that trigger til you're satisfied Joe, I'm on-board.
-manned an M249 before I got ahold of the 240, and then that sweet, sweet tater gun on the IFV, so I'm probably biased-
Also, RE the statistics, a very very large percentage aren't combat arms..come to think of it....wtf? If Brown and Root are gonna deliver the meals and wash the clothes.....(also, a great many combat arms are assigned to non-combat or "rear guard" duties. I think that some people would be amazed at how many infrantrymen -for example- mowed lawns during the recent unpleasantness)
