And of course, only you have the best reading comprehension skills to know exactly which parts are to be read metaphorically and which parts are to be taken literally. Undecided

And all those other 30,000 + Christian sects that read the Bible differently have inferior reading comprehension skills as you. Not to mention Jews and Muslims that interpret the Bible differently.

Pay attention to what I actually write. Do I ever insist that anyone should believe me let alone any other person? No, I insist that they research what I say for themselves... Do you understand my signature???

It is modernity that forces you to claim some parts of the Bible that used to be taken literally, are now metaphor. You do know that if you were around 500 years ago, you would have been a heretic for claiming the earth was spherical, right?

That's pretty ill informed of you. The Bible has stated that for a lot longer than 500 years...

Actually, the bible has never explicitly stated that the earth was flat or round. However, passages like this one:
Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.
strongly imply that the earth is flat.

One could say that perhaps he showed Jesus a vision of the nations, but this assumption is illogical unless the earth is pressupposed to be round. There is no reason he would have had to take him to a mountaintop to do this, it would be more reasonable to think they were looking down over a flat earth.

I don't trust your logic, simple as that...

So, without the knowledge that the earth was round, it would be more reasonable to assume that Lucifer took Jesus up to a high mountain to show him a vision (which he could have done anywhere) than for him to look over the flat earth at all of the kingdoms from above?

You keep saying there wasn't knowledge of a spherical Earth, why?

I say it is written in the Bible as well as a description of there being both night and day at the same time on the earth. What would your reasonable assumption be then?

Flat Earth Society

wikipedia Wrote:The belief that the Earth was flat was typical of ancient cosmologies until about the 4th century BC, when the Ancient Greek philosophers proposed the idea that the Earth was a sphere, or at least rounded in shape. Aristotle was one of the first thinkers to propose a spherical Earth in 330 BC. By the early Middle Ages, it was widespread knowledge throughout Europe that the Earth was a sphere.By the early Middle Ages, it was widespread knowledge throughout Europe that the Earth was a sphere.

The OT was written prior to 330 B.C.E. Therefore, its writers would have envisioned a flat earth, even if they were scientists. The NT was written prior to the middle ages (by far), so while the writers might have been exposed to the idea that the earth was spherical, it is not certain they were or that they believed it. If they knew the earth was round, then why would they write the passage in such a misleading way when most, if not all of their audience thought the earth was flat?

You say this. Please provide the passage. I usually, if not always, provide the passage(s) in question in my posts.

I understand it fine.

I just find it strange that you claim to know which parts are to be taken literally, which parts are metaphor, and from another post of yours, which parts are corrupted by humans.

How do you know which are which? What is the particular algorithm that you apply to the Bible to discern which is which?

There are more passages that can be interpreted as describing the earth as flat. This passage for example, Job 38:14 - "The earth takes shape like clay under a seal; its features stand out like those of a garment".

This is what clay under a seal looks like -

Looks pretty flat to me.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

Pretty sure someone who murders innocent civilians because they were gullible enough to believe some political fiend will make it to heaven on the first go.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

You clearly have a fundamental misunderstanding of the relationship between your own claims and my responsibilities. Guess this one ends with "what can be asserted without evidence can be dismissed without evidence".

Which god should I be considering? Why would this be "an admission". Already assuming the rhetoric of religious garbage I see. How am I supposed to even consider this proposition if you cannot provide that "legitimate word" (or anything at all)? Am I supposed to be considering nothing? Already there.

I understand perfectly, that is why it is your job, not mine. You expect me to back my claims so that you can dismiss them without so much as peeking at them. I expect you to do the research for yourself and come to your own conclusions...

Do you see what happens when an atheist encounters me? They start telling me that I interpreted wrong, pretty ironic, no? Is that why you want me to spoon-feed you?

My interpretation of the Bible says that you have God's law written on your heart, so you have all the tools needed to dicern the "legitimate word" for yourself...
