On Non-belief
RE: On Non-belief

It's not something only most theists do. I accept as truth only what can be demonstrated. I accept as plausible ideas which are reasonable extrapolations of demonstrable truth. Everything else fits on a sliding scale from educated guess to hypothesis to naked assumption to fantasy to delusion to outright lies. The logic of theism is in no way compatible with what I just described because the logic you and your fellow Christians use confuses many of those terms, as I understand them. You call truth what registers no better than halfway up my little scale of skepticism, and I can't avoid sounding stuck-up: I demand more from my truth than you do.

But listen to you, right? You've got this bible stuff down, and the others who see it differently are those dumb theists, right? Funny thing, though; they're all saying exactly the same thing, and you can't all be right.

How are we supposed to reach a conclusion about this?

Most theists don't do research. The ones that do research have at least some credibility.

THere is no credibility in the claim of the existence of gods

Research has failed to provide even a single piece of testable proof of the existence of a god - except as fictional characters in Myths and legends created by superstitious people -= mostly ancients.

IF a theist did research - they would discover that their "scripture" contradicts itself so badly as to make the claim of their god to be a joke - at which time they would become non-believers.

You obviously have a restricted vocabulary. This is probably not your fault, but "research" does not strictly mean "empirical data gathered from a test by way of scientific method".

If a theist did research, they would discover their scripture matches secular teachings in historical events (Mesopotamian flood narrative, Jericho, Babylon, Egypt, etc.), they would discover that the "contradictions" generally don't even apply to each other, and that, in comparison with other ancient texts, including simple historical records, the bible is amazingly accurate. There is probably some partiality to kings (such as Solomon) or scribal errors (King Saul became king at 1 year old and died at 2 years old), but overall the record keeping is fantastic. They'll find that the moral teachings are largely accepted as society's norms in all western culture today, yet in that time period the usual way to do science was magical incantation or astrology, and the way to give to God was sacrifice, yes, but Hebrews didn't include the orgies or the sacrifice of children or the masochism of their own flesh. They actually seem... well... Holy?

If a theist does research, the research is usually tainted and the results are worthless, for the theist begins by assuming he knows what the result will be and will skew the experiment so that it produced the expected result.

It is enough for you that the Bible sometimes mentions real events. You'll ignore, or dismiss, the fact that it is the sole source for most of the events it claims to be true. You sloppily dismiss errors and contradictions as unimportant, and arbitrarily so. For you, it is enough that societal norms in western civilization coincide slightly with biblical morals, ignoring the fact that western society viciously shuns many biblically-moral activities such as slavery, misogyny, child murder, genocide, and rape.

So, take a moment from insulting someone else for not acknowledging the multiple contexts of the world 'research' and remember that one of them is "analysis of a work of fiction", which is the sort of research you're really engaging in.

That's pretty indistinguishable from there being no fucking god(s) at all.
See, you agree with me even if your math skill are weak The original set of deductions can't have a set of prepositions labeled (x) derived from God because that would make (x) an absolute truth without God having to proveprove anything becausbecause

I don't give a fuck about your math games. Provide evidence that your fucking god exists or STFU.

Just WOW! People are trying to mathematically prove god existence with patterns and circular logic!

What Minimalist stated! Please provide proof!

Bzzt, incorrect.

Bzzt, never happened.

What, that babylon and egypt existed? I find this less impressive than you.

Hmn, all the compelling shit must be in the unspoken "etc"....

So, if a theist did research they would find what you felt that you found above? Precisely the problem.
