Religious threats and the forum rules?

Religious threats and the forum rules?
I just wanted to ask, if a person with a certain religious faith would threaten a member of this forum with religiously motivated violence ( for example a jihad) - is that permitted or not?

Like anything else, it would be evaluated on a case by case basis, after the fact. I'm going to go out on a limb here and speak for the staff: we aren't ever going to say it's permitted to threaten another member with violence. It isn't.

The action taken would depend wholly on the circumstances and could take the form of anything from a reminder of the rules to a permanent ban.

In any case, the proper way to handling this is to use the post reporting system wherever possible, or to PM a staff member if it's something that occurred in PM, the shoutbox, etc.

I am not use to a society in which threatening people with violence on the ground of ones religious or political convictions is permitted.

Threatening to kill, hurt or infringe the democratic rights of people on the grounds of ones religion or politics can get you 20 years in jail where I am from.

I guess I will have to get use to it.

Get used to what? I'm confused.

It isn't allowed here. If it happens, and staff becomes aware of it, it will be dealt with.

If you're referring to my comment regarding cratehorus' post, it was quite clear that he was joking (he's an atheist, and in any case, lacks standing to issue a fatwa). That's one of those things that would be taken into consideration before any action was taken.

@TGAC: Please read (or re-read) CD's initial reply above. Nowhere did he say that such threats of violence as you describe are permitted; in fact the very opposite. To reiterate, the correct approach, as always, is to alert the attention of the staff via the PM or reporting systems. The offending post will be considered carefully and, if it is deemed to flout the rules - in this case, concerning preaching and/or personal attack - appropriate action will be taken.
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist.  This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair.  Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second.  That means there's a situation vacant.'

Sorry for being vague.

If a muslim were to post something like:

I see it as my duty to force non muslims under the sharia, which will include fighting people like you!

that would not violate the forum rules (at least that is how I understood it)

Sorry if it seems like I'm pulling rank here, but interpretation of the rules (among other things) is what the staff is for. We're not only here to look pretty - which of course we do, in spades.
