Another Prayer Question For Theists

With Christians we ask God to determine what's best or at least we should, and if He decides in our favor then we have unleashed the same power that created the universe.

LOL, "All those other prayers rely on magic, but not Christian prayer." Special pleading FTL.

Truth doesn't change.

Exactly. The truth is, all religious prayers boil down to trying to affect the natural via the magical and it doesn't change whether its a Christian doing it or a Buddhist.

I'll bite. I agree with this statement, but what is it that you're holding to be true? How do you verify the veracity of something? What is your threshold of proof (rather, how much proof do you need before you believe something to be true)?

:Channeling PeterPriesthood:

Did God give you a testimony of the truth by means of the Holy Ghost? If not, then how do you know that what you take for truth (concerning your beliefs) is not of the Devil?

:End Channeling:

Satan is called the father of lies, It's not how he works nor would God allow Satan to speak for Him in answer to prayer.

Oh, hogwash! God seems to let Satan get away with a lot, including the tempting of Christ and the cursing of Job. If God doesn't let Satan lie to people, then how is he a liar?

Of course God allows it. In fact, that's what the phrase 'Satanic verses' refers to.

There you go again, spinning your ideas of what I said into the conversation, weak move at best. I did not say God keep Satan from lying, I said God would not allow Satan to answer prayers that come to Him. You think that God allowing Satan to test two is "a lot." To many people give Satan to much credit, especially Christians, we are a sinful people and do not need Satan to lead us off, see if you studied scripture you would have known this.

And if you had instead studied English Lit rather than that fictional tome you would know it was properly "TOO many people give Satan TOO much credit..."

There's a difference between TO and TOO.

Alright I don't consider myself a grammar/spelling Nazi. Thor knows I fuck that shit up all the time. But there has to be a base bottom standard.

RE: Another Prayer Question For Theists
So if Satan doesn't deceive people when they pray (for which there is no basis to believe he couldn't except your own feelings on this, GC) then where else does he get his chance to lie? Does he walk down the street in broad daylight, whispering to people? "Psst...by the way, the sky is actually made of water." Sounds pretty ineffective to me. People can make bad choices all on their own; why is Satan necessary?
