The BMI Conspiracy

According to this, for my height of 5'10" I am at a healthy current weight between 170 and 180.
According to that, it is now healthy to be overweight.

Is there something I'm not seeing? I just used your info and came up with a BMI on the boundary of the upper region of 'normal' weight and overweight. It tells you nothing about any health effects, merely your estimated Body Mass Index score. Where is the conspiracy, please?

The conspiracy is that it states I am at a normal current weight for my height, when I am clearly overweight. It states at between 170 and 180 for 5'10, I am at a normal weight. Clearly, the fat accumulated around my middle, thighs, and butt contest to being at a "normal" weight.
My body does not distribute weight evenly when I gain weight. As a result, what they consider to be a normal weight for me is actually me overweight. What they consider me being underweight is actually a normal weight for me.

Maybe it has something to do with fat being less dense than muscle, and BMI doesn't account for that at all. It doesn't help that BMI is a poor measure of obesity to begin with.

That's why they have a section outlining some of the Index score's
limitations. It's not like they're hiding this stuff. I will grant that the iPhone app describes the BMI as being "a reliable indicator of total body fat" which it is not, as explained on that limitations page. Still not seeing a conspiracy, I'm afraid.

I'm 5' 11", and when I weighed between 170 and 180 I was in the best shape of my life.

I don't think I'm actually underweight, but my BMI is 17.9.
No conspiracy, but it really isn't a great indicator.
