Fuck Churches
October 24, 2013 at 5:55 am
Hey,
I have a friend who works for an IT Company. One of their clients is the largest church in their area pulling down over £2,000,000 per year. He told me that the Church were looking to get servers installed that sounded 'OK' to me a large church needs servers to keep staff and everything else ticking over.
But the told me that the Church had applied as a Charity for a super large subsidy to get servers and licence keys for Microsoft Software.
Stuff like this even when I was a Christian made me sick, There are people starving / businesses going bust yet the Church with the most money tries again to play the 'We are poor card'. This church has over £10,000,000 in their savings yet want a subsidy on a few hundred pounds because they claim they are a 'Charity'.
To me a Charity means giving not Hoarding. I think if the Church did its Job and gave its riches away they would actually help the world as a whole. Take the Vatican it has billions upon billions you have to remember its pretty much the oldest Private Country in the world so they are bound to have loads of coin in the coffer's that no-one knows about.
I'm just so pissed off

They're not playing the "we are poor card." They're asking for legally-provided subsidies. The money they don't spend on computer systems could conceivably be used for programs to help the poor. Many churches in the USA provide such programs and services.
In any case, it's really up to the government to decide if it should provide so many financial breaks and shelters to religious organizations. I think that would probably happen in Europe first, there's no way it would even be considered in the USA at present.

Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Actually, They are playing this card - Yes the stuff is for legally provided subsidies but 90% off Microsoft Office suites hardly says its fair.
This money that this church has is to line its own pockets as its been a very rich church for years. They have made an ultra-modern building / top of the range AV Equipment etc. But very little goes out to Charity.
Perhaps this Church should start giving money to those who need it before buying top of the range sound systems.

Reality check: The Anglican church does more charitable work in Australia than any other NPO, including all other churches. We do more than the RCC, even though the RCC is larger. The church is indeed "doing its job".

What about churches that are neither in Australia nor Anglican?

My beef is that if you ever goto a Church they generally have all the money they need through their 'Pay Your Way To Heaven' Scheme. Yet then these churches have the gawl to call themselves Charity.
A Charity is someone who needs the money - When Joining a Church paying your subs is compuslary.

Given that the church's "job," is effectively doing nothing and getting paid for it, I'd suggest that maybe the obscene wealth, tax breaks and so on, are legitimately galling.

I thought this thread was going to be about sexual organizations of a religious nature.
Too bad...I was curious to see what kind of proselytizing efforts it used.

I'm not saying that it's right or fair, I'm just pointing out that the subsidies are available and that I think it would be crazy for them not to take advantage of the pricing offered.
