I'm curious. See I believe in God. But I'm increasingly dubious that the God of my experience is the one spoken of in the Bible (for the most part)

Tell me, do you believe the Bible was divinely inspired? And if so, why do you believe that?

one way to is follow the prophesy as it relates to the state of israel. Christ spoke of israel dispersion throughout the gentile nations - they would fall by the edge of the sword, and would be led captive into all nations and jerusalem trampled under foot by the gentiles until their time is fulfilled - . so Christ used the word 'until' which means that the dispersion would not last forever. the regathering of israel commenced in 1948 ; this regathering before the 7 year tribulation period is in unbelief (where it stand currently). so after some 2000 years israel has a homeland in an unbelieving state as pertaining to the messiah. now the world is in an undefined period of time prior to the 7 year tribulation period that has very detailed prophesy. after the trib, further prophesy then defines israel in a believing regathered state. more prophesy then defines the 1000 year millennium kingdom to fulfill God's promises. With what we have already seen, we can be assured that God is now preparing the world for the final events leading up to israel's national regeneration. why israel? God has elected to tell his story thru them.

God is quite a long-winded story teller, isn't he? One question: Can he get to the fucking point already?

it's a matter of perspective --- with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day

That must have been great consolation to each and every animal on this planet brutalized and decimated. "Hey, it's just perspective!"

You haven't justified the Bible in any way as more truthful or 'inspired' than any other book.

How shall we escape what?
the consequence of not believing what God has done. yes, that's all that's required 'believing'.
God uses the book of nature, and book of scripture; and a person's conscience to reveal Himself. this menu topic is revealed in scripture. God will place our spirits in indestructible bodies that can exist beyond earth's 4 dim's, no longer bound by the laws and limits of the current existence. one outcome will be a choice some will make which is not accept God's plan of salvation (which is to believe through Christ's death, burial, and resurrection; God paid their sin penalty).
now if God's offer of salvation is rejected as a pattern of ongoing animosity towards God, a person can reach a point to cross-over to blasphemy threshold which means that person's heart becomes fixed and then they become unredeemable reprobates, in many cases those persons will soon die. one reason for this is to limits their evil and suffering that the blasphemer will bring about to themselves and to others. another reason --- the greater judgment they would pile up against themselves. so it's clear, salvation is a work of God on behalf of a person. what is asked of man is to believe it was done for them individually. when the U. time line ends, a great divide between believers and unbelievers begins, scriptures refers to this as ' a great gulf fixed'.

In the same spirit, submitting to a rapist saves you from the consequence of having your eyes cut out of your head.

Anyway have you guys seen David Mitchell pascals wager rant in relation to atheism?

blaise pascal wager doesn't apply. one's eternity is not based on believing in God's existence or not. satan believes and trembles, and will be forever sealed off from the new creation in a place called hell. this U. is going to disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire and God will then create the new creation where evil is forever sealed off. the timing will be after the 1000 year reign of Christ on the earth, proceeding that is a 7 year tribulation period, preceding that is an unknown period which we are current in but there are signs given approaching the end of this period. israel will be a nation (fulfilled), israel will sign a comprehensive middle east peace treaty assuring their security brokered by the antichrist (unfulfilled).
