Fondle gods balls now ready for the post-life 'worship'. Quote:1. Why not just kill yourself, rather than risk you becoming an Atheist later in life? After all, if you were to die in a car crash at that point you'd go to heaven. Heaven is great and much better than this life apparently.the teaching of salvation Christ instilled was not about going through a ceremony, but living a life style. The point of 'salvation' does not happen in this life but the next one when one is 'saved' from Judgement and damnation. To kill yourself would not be the typical 'fruit' of one who has the relationship needed for salvation. Quote:2. Why not just create only heaven?quite simply not everyone wants to goto Heaven. From Satan's pov Heaven is eternal Slavery to a God he hates. Hell as bad as it is, represents freedom from God and all He has created. Quote:3. Why bother with such a large universe, when all you really need is a church and someone to tell you what to believe.Eternal universe.. Eternal life... Hmmm it sound like we get star ships and get to explore it. Maybe some 'we' get to go on some sort of Star Trek... Quote:4. Why create death? Even if humans need to die so they get to heaven, there's no need for animals to die of old age. (It's almost like humans are animals)Death is us waking up from whatever matrix we are plugged into that has us in this world while we will actually live in the next. Death is just the transition from one state of existence to the next. Quote:I'm sure there a hundreds more. You don't seem to understand Christianity very well if this is what you truly think. "Advanced" christian civilization explores the universe (where no atheist has gone before), and visits another "advanced" civilizations ... But what of "The Prime Directive", oh my, no particular use for that shit, right ? (February 27, 2014 at 12:48 am)FifthElement Wrote:(February 27, 2014 at 12:28 am)Drich Wrote: Eternal universe.. I just don't see the point. Christianity is really pissing me off. I can see the shit it's making someone I love go through. Heartache and guilt that's not necessary. Glad I broke free, but unfortunately it's still holding a lot of others hostage.

Thinking I'm just in one very long test that I can never be totally sure I'm going to pass would make my life very miserable. I read so many people saying that forcing themselves to believe because they are fearful of hell is making them depressed. Maybe their version of Christianity is different to yours, or perhaps they don't have the ability to just accept that everything that their particular church tells them is true. From a Christian source* : 70% of pastors are fighting depression and 1,500 pastors walk away from ministry every month because of moral failure, burnout, conflict, discouragement or depression. I'd expect if there was a God and he wanted pastors to spread his word he'd help them a bit, not make them miserable. *http://www.christianpost.com/news/falwell-measurements-of-success-in-ministry-are-messed-up-45219/ I've no idea of the validity (February 24, 2014 at 11:38 am)Chad32 Wrote: 3. Originally they thought the stars were just cracks in the firmament or something. They didn't know that each star was a sun and so forth. There's a line somewhere about Satan knocking stars out of the sky, so either they thought the stars were just lights in the sky, or Satan would have to take up most of the Milky Way. And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind. http://biblehub.com/revelation/6-13.htm
I find it absurd when one is an adult to feel the need for a fictional cosmic sky parent. You need someone to tell you not to murder people? You couldn't figure that one out on your own?
Brian, that commandment (you shall not murder) removed all excuses the Jews might have come up with in doing their own thing.
The news is filled with accounts of murder, especially from the middle east. Apparently the killers need to be told something? Or is it that the killers have been told something else. Something that usurps a moral code that we follow.
I'm pretty sure Thou Shalt Not Kill only pertained to the Yahwists. The people who worshiped Yahweh. Note that right after giving Moses the commandments, Yahweh told him his people were corrupt and needed to be killed. Much like how they were only supposed to take slaves from other tribes, but members of their tribe were to be released after seven years. Aside from a loophole.
