I haven't seen the movie, so I just listened to the song, and it really doesn't sound much like a villain song. I'm glad she was changed, because that would have made her unintentionally sympathetic.

I remember they had to add a scene about Tai Lung attacking the village in Kung Fu Panda later in production because the audience was actually rooting for him. Of course this was a western audience that didn't know about Confucianism, and how you're never supposed to attack your master, regardless of what s/he does.

What's telling is how they assume the lead character is gay because she's an outcast... meaning they're admitting the persecution of gays they claim doesn't exist really does exist.

I think that might also be why it's being shit on: when you come right down to it, Frozen really does have the same "being yourself is awesome!" message that the majority of other Disney... hell, children's movies in general, have. The difference is that the presenter of that message is an independent, in some ways less than traditionally feminine woman who doesn't define herself by romantic attractions and manages to present this message without a masculine helper.

Seriously, how many of these goddamn movies feature a lead character who learns to accept a part of themselves as a part of their arc? How is Elsa different from them, aside from the fact that she doesn't interact significantly with any of the male characters in the film?

This whole thing reeks of the usual assumptions: she doesn't get with a guy, she's strong on her own and has her own opinions, therefore, she must be some form of queer analog.

You'd think that with "love" being the ending message (general love - not romantic love) of the movie, they would say "Jesus taught us to love everyone!" except they can't even remember their own fucking mythology.

I haven't even seen Frozen yet, but I have to wonder what these people thought of the X-Men movies. Being a mutant has been seen as a metaphor for homosexuality in the comics since the start in the 60s. They even made a joke in one of the movies about Iceman's parents not knowing, and asking "Have you tried not being a mutant?" when they found out. For that matter, I seem to recall Buffy the Vampire Slayer's mom asking "Have you tried not being a slayer?" when she found out, too. I love that show.

But in all of them, it's just about accepting people who are different, and being LGBT is just one possible "difference" from the norm that we should all be accepting of. It's not about being gay. It's about everyone accepting each other for who they are. According to a recent post from one Christian poster here on AF, that's even a Christian moral value (insert No True Christian ™ comment here).

Perhaps the most telling information about a person is what they choose to interpret something as - especially in 'fear' response.

In TV Tropes there are sections like "loners are freaks", "The complainer is always wrong", "Bury your gays/hide your lesbians", ones about women needing to be in a family or having male support to be successful, and all that. Conservative christians aren't too big on female empowerment, or women who live independently of men and wan to do more than spend 18 years or more raising children. Love thy neighbor, and judge not lest you be judged. Yeah, pretty basic "be nice to people" message that seems to be lacking in the OT. First impressions are always important, and the first impression we get is to kill those who are different.

There are plenty of straight women who feel that way too - it makes some of them feel good that they 'excel' at that shit, and any man who proves good at it must also be gay because no straight guy could possibly be good at the things men are supposed to be good at AND homemaking. Why...that would imply that those women who are homemakers might also be able to be good at business or other jobs and that requires work!

Stuff like this merely points to an extreme threat to self-worth and self-esteem.
