Touching alone could be misleading. Touching a person who merely claims godhood is not proof of the person's divinity.

But is your sense of touch competent enough to discern the difference between a human who feels like a human and a god who feels like a human? Anyone can walk up to you, claim divinity, and state "touch me, for I am divine." You simply cannot trust the person's claim to divinity based on your sense of touch alone.
For someone who is blind, I suppose the truth of one's divinity would have to first be ascertained by those in the scientific community who are trustworthy.
