I've been depressed/sad and suicidal in the past (those are scary times for my loved ones), but depressed/apathetic is my normal state. I think about suicide a lot, but I doubt I'll ever actually do it. You're such a nice person. I wonder why you would have such thoughts.
But I must say that there are two things in life that do actually bring on people to the brink of suicide.
One is monotony, the other is the weight of your responsibilities crushing down upon you.
Amongst these, I'd say that monotony is the worst. I never had suicidal thoughts, but monotony would surely wear off on me.
Thanks Mehmet
For me, it's chemical. I have a really great life with few responsibilities and a ton of freedom.

Well, is it something of a psychiatric problem, then?
Like something that is kept in check with medication?

I stopped my meds years ago. I actually like myself better without them, even if it is harder to get through a lot of days.

The real question: Is it morally wrong to prevent or otherwise interfere with someone's suicide?

Prevent? I'm not sure. Interfere? I have no problem trying to talk a loved one out of committing suicide. Though if s/he were adamant, I would respect their wishes.

Well, if you feel better, I guess the doctors would not mind if you did, I presume.
I do not wish to bother you further with my questions, then.
Esen kal.

Whenever I think of suicide I think of my grandparents. Every event good or bad after that time was just overshadowed by their absence. I can't say I'm mad at them for that. But, I can't say much about them can I? They certainly can't tell me why either.
I feel like everything we do with the energy we are given, becomes a ripple in the universe. Suicide ripples, but those ripples die out. Other ripples go on, but the lack of that one ripple becomes an absence-- Not nothing. The universe will never be the same without you and your beautiful ripple. I wont ever do it myself, but I am not everyone else. I don't think suicide is wrong in some instances, but I think you owe it to yourself to do everything to give yourself a chance. Your future self might thank you one day.
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!
Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.
Dead wrong. The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.
Quote:Some people deserve hell.
I say again: No exceptions. Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it. As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

The future self is your present self, friend. One should keep on going merely for the sake of being in this world. One should not forget that our primal instinct is to live, and even better so, if we give that life a grand purpose to go along!

I have a perspective on this from both sides if the issue. I've attempted suicide three times, one an amateurish attempt, the other two quite serious. My mother attempted and left me to find her, clean up the mess and care for my brother while she was hospitalized for months. Three friends died by their own hands (two by gunshot, one by overdose).
Morally wrong? I can't judge for another person when they've reached the point of unbearable pain. Selfish? It absolutely can be.
Can it be distilled down to black-and-white right-or-wrong? I think not.

In the United States we basically imprison the suicidal. We don't call them prisons however....we call them mental health hospitals.
Is committing a suicidal person moral? It has certainly helped many.
