Evolution Facts

RE: Evolution Facts
Evidence for an evolutionary process is obvious and plentiful, but of course, creating amino acids in a lab is far from creating a living creature. It also doesn't in any way rule out a creator. It may be true, but it's a lousy argument to use to try to deny the existence of God. By the way, I went to a catholic school for my first eight years and was taught evolution in science class. I guess if some kids are home schooled, they could have this kind of science hidden from them. But I believe they need to pass qualification testing in science to move on and graduate. I don't know of any schools that don't teach evolution.

I certainly wouldn't argue that evolution disproves god. But it comes up often on these forums because Fundamentalists so often believe that evolution would disprove their conception of god. Which is why the Bible Belt has so many creationists trying to "teach the controversy" in schools.

I don't base my lack of belief in god on evolution. I base it on lack of evidence of god.
If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

My favorite evolution website has for the last fifteen years been http://www.talkorigins.org. They are detailed, thorough, and extremely well-documented.

I'm sensing a bit of projection, there: not one of the posters before this has said evolution disproves god. This thread is in the science section, not the religion one. Chill out. Tongue

This.

Plus, how many freakin times do we have to repeat that there are Christians, and those of other faiths, who believe in God and in evolution?
This is not an either/or option.

Yep. I have never had a problem with evolution, not before I was a Christian, not while, and not after. I was never a literalist or fundamentalist, though.

Earth teems with a staggering variety of animals, including 9,000 kinds of birds, 28,000 types of fish, and more than 350,000 species of beetles alone.
What explains this explosion of living creatures-1.4 million different species discovered so far, with perhaps another 50 million more to go? The source of life's endless forms was a profound mystery until Charles Darwin's revolutionary idea of natural selection, which he showed could help explain the gradual development of life on earth.
But Darwin's radical insights raised as many questions as they answered. What actually drives evolution and turns one species into another? And how did we evolve? On Charles Darwin's 2009 bicentennial, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species, NOVA reveals answers to the riddles that Darwin couldn't explain.
Stunning breakthroughs in a brand new science-nicknamed evo devo - are linking the enigma of origins to another of nature's great mysteries, the development of an embryo. To explore this exciting new idea, NOVA takes viewers on a journey from the Galapagos Islands to the Arctic, and from the Cambrian explosion of animal forms half a billion years ago to the research labs of today.
Here scientists are finally beginning to crack nature's biggest secrets at the genetic level. And, as NOVA shows in this absorbing detective story, the results are confirming the brilliance of Darwin's insights while exposing clues to life's breathtaking diversity in ways he could scarcely have imagined.

"not one change of species into another is on record. We can not prove that a SINGLE specie has ever changed". That quote is by Charles Darwin himself. Confusedhock:

That statement still holds true today.

I know I keep coming back to this, but what the fuck more do evolution deniers WANT? We've got examples of speciation, we've got fossils, we've got genetic evidence...fuxxake, we've got reptiles giving live birth, oviparous mammals, venomous mammals, wingless birds, fish with rudimentary legs and mammals with scales. But is that enough for them? No, they want crocoducks and dogs giving birth to cats and an unbroken fossil sequence (never mind the rarity of fossilization).

They want us to accept creation based on arguments that have nothing to DO with evolution - 'Darwin was a racist, so evolution can't be true' and 'Carl Sagan was a lousy father, so his views are suspect'.

I used to debate these feckwits. I used to try and take the time to point out to them where they were wrong, why they were wrong, how evolution is really no threat to their beliefs. I've talked about genotypes and phenotypes til I'm blue in the mouth. I've given links to website after website in an attempt to educate these simpletons.

But no more. The information is out there - mountains of it. If they can't be bothered to look at facts instead of the lunatic rantings of the likes of Ken Hamm and WL Craig, fuck them, each and every one. Life's too short for me to spend any more of mine trying to rescue the deliberately, obstinately ignorant from their own folly. Fools.

Boru

I have also dug deep in all the evolution theory and found them to be full of holes, no good base and no sustainable evidence. It is not that I don't want to believe. Lately, scientists are coming up with many different theories (such as multi-universe) to explain the impossible odds they are being faced with.

Yes. In the eighteen-hundreds. Science has moved on quote a bit since then. Dodgy

Sorry to disappoint you, but no, it doesn't. Here's a list of numerous examples. Funny, how you said what you did, apparently without doing any research first. Thinking

Oh, and I warn you: don't come back here and say "Oh, but dogs still give birth to dogs, and cats give birth to cats! We've never seen a fish give birth to a monkey!" That's not what evolution says would happen and, incidentally, would actually disprove evolution as it did. I implore you, be the one evolution denier in all of history to do some research and repair your ignorance of the subject before you respond.
