Wow now that I've read this thread, I gotta say I'm a stand by gamer, I have a PS3, had a PS2 since it came out, I've played several videogames, and I gotta say Napo, I'm gonna hate you slightly for saying MGS4 is overrated, but that is just me, an MGS fan. Now that I think about it, I should go get my ps3 back from the closet and buy MGS ground zeroes
By stand by I mean I stopped playing 2 years ago since I got into college.

Battlefield 2. I loved BF42 (and the unofficial Desert Combat mod was the shit - I'd *still* play that if I had a disc that still worked). I bought BF2 for the PS3, huge disappointment. I thought maybe it was because it was a console adaptation, so picked up the same on PC during a steam sale. Nope. What a shitty game. (Perhaps multiplayer was better, I couldn't get into it - it's tough for a noob to catch up when everyone's been playing it for months or more. Multiplayer FPS has lost it's luster for me.).
That was the last game of the Battlefield franchise that I played. I know the COD franchise catches a lot of flak, perhaps rightly so, but I still enjoy the older games in that franchise from time to time. Haven't played anything later than COD2.

The first CODs were good for the PS2. I still enjoyed MW and MW2 for the PS3, perhaps because they were the first CODs for the 7th generation. MW had great impact, it was the first, MW2 had a nice evolution and new features, but from there on they pretty much never added anything. And a confession, I actually liked black ops, the multiplayer kept me busy for a very long time

It is overrated. I think Hideo Kojima on the whole is overrated as a 'director' or whatever it is he is.
Doesn't mean it's a bad game. MGS3 is one of my favourite games of all time, I do like Metal Gear Solid, I just think MGS4 tried a bit too hard to make a meaningful story, so much so that it ended up being pretty meaningless. The environments and general game settings were pretty bland too.

The environments and general game settings were pretty bland too. I didn't think so, I thought it was a masterpiece. But I gotta say my favourite MSG was MGS2, and considering it came out in 2001, it was a well deserved 9.9... Just look at the graphics, they are still decent, imagine them back in 2001, I played it back then and it was amazing, considering at the time no game had better graphics/storyline.
My rating of MGS is
MGS2 - MGS1 - MGS 4 - MGS3
Still haven't played ground zeroes.

It wasn't until a few years back that I could ever afford a PC that could handle an FPS well enough to actually be worth playing. On console I loved CoD4, CoD WaW and even MW2 despite the awful game breaking glitches. After that although I the later games with friends it was only because of the people I knew that I bothered to play. I liked BF:BC2 too, it was the first battlefield game that really seemed to hit it off on console. I agree with you on FPS games though. Most are sub par, even though I'm playing a lot of BF4 its not a great game at all.
Other than that ARMA 3 has a lot of draw for me but its not a game like BF or CoD where you can go online and play for 30 mins. With ARMA you have to set out an entire afternoon and expect anywhere up to 30 mins between gunfights that can be over in either seconds or a couple minutes.

What about Unreal Tournament, GOTY edition... from way back in 1999?
Anything can play it smoothly... plus, you can play online with very little bots and cheaters (when I played, I saw none of either and I played it for a few years). The trick may be to pick a correct server.... I used the UnrealTeam.de servers, at the time, you would find me in the sniperrifle only server.... let me see if I can bring back the name: "[UT] Freestyle-SNIPER unrealteam.de"
Code: https://www.gametracker.com/server_info/85.14.221.179:6666/
Just googled it and it seems you can get it from here
Code: http://www.theisozone.com/downloads/pc/windows-games/unreal-tournament-goty-edition-2/
They say even a netbook can run this game at full speed!!
Now this was a game worth all the hype!
If I wasn't so into World of Tanks, right now, I'd go back to UT.

Yeah.. My family couldn't afford a PC when I was 7. Certainly not one I would have been allowed to play video games on..
And honestly I'd never even heard of unreal tournament until the last few years. I'm not one of those "I don't care about graphics" gamers either. I want to be able to see things that aren't made of big ugly squares.

The only game I do now is Farmville 2, and I have gotten simultaneously addicted and burned out by it. I'd say it's a bit overrated.
