“You creationists are evil and abusing children by lying to them!...but I’ll gladly work for you if you pay me.” Are atheists ever consistent?

Allow me to quote my friend Statler Waldorf from page 2 of this thread to answer your question--as in what principle might that atheist appeal to?

My guess is a creationist theme park is about as much fun as a kick in the balls.

Substantially more expensive, as well.

As an American, I can only agree that some of us are.

...or shall we start stereotyping your country, as well?

If that is directed at me hold on your horses - I wasn't stereotyping anyone, in fact I tend to be the one defending Americans when some people come up with the American stereotype of 'fat, stupid, ignorant and the cause of all evil and stupidity' - I doubt all Americans believe in creationism - My critic was directed towards your laws allowing people to NOT hire someone based on sexual orientation and religious beliefs - I will be the first to criticize the portuguese law or European laws in general, but in Europe constitutions usually say None shall be discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation, ethnicity, gender, religious beliefs, etc. and that's it, no one can refuse to hire someone based on those factors - It doesn't mean people don't do it, but not so openly as it is happening on this situation described in the thread.

I think employers should have the liberty to discriminate based on certain rules they are free to make up, but not so far as allowing them to not hire someone because they are black, gay, or an atheist. In fact if I was, let's say, a Jew and someone hired me, they are forced by law to allow me to not work on Saturdays.

Why would you think that when I was responding to, and directly quoted, someone else?

Hey we have a politician that claims that blind and gay people shouldn't allow to get married(because if you can't look at one eyes during sex that's make the relationship a taboo according to her). So if you want to start stereotyping my country just let me know so I can join you. Because I hate my country.

No problem - and you know, despite all your country's problems, it's my second home. I just get tired of the "Americans are dumb, hurt durr" meme. Yeah, many of us are fucked up, and certainly our national politics are shit, but it's shitty to tar all of us with that brush, much as it is to tar Mexicans as lazy welfare cases, because it just isn't so.

May I ask why a second home? Tongue

I agree, stereotyping is dangerous, even when we're talking about religious people it's irrational to lump them all into one category. I guess the american stereotype comes more from the south.
