Φ or φ, phi, the greek letter representing the sound which, in the latin alphabet, is attributed to the letter 'f'.

In physics, it is often considered to represent a flux. Flux of particles, flux of some field, flux of electrons on a copper wire, flux of water on a pipe, flux of light through a lens... always related to the unit area.

In "mathematics", it represents the "golden number", or "golden ratio", connected to the Fibonacci sequence and "beauty" in art and architecture.
Or it's just another letter, when you need one more variable for your calculations..

In woo woo mysticism, the golden number is seen as evidence that Nature is built around it, from seashells, to the parthenon(?).... and so evidence of a designer.... -.-'

Actually, there is a way that the Universe can exist through the Big Bang. I have a self-crafted theory to explain our Universe as a product oof the Big Bang.

Interesting. Come on, spill it!

Forgive me if I don't hold out much hope for your "self crafted theory".
Oh and hi.

I'll spare you the trouble. It's turtles all the way down.

No, this is the part where I say that the golden ratio is behind everything from the shape of the universe, galaxies, shape of the human body, and botanical life. The golden ratio (aka divine proportion) is recognized for being aesthetically pleasing, which is why it's used in architecture and art, even music.

some examples.

also the relationship between the distances from Angkor Vihear to the Great Pyramid and from the Great Pyramid to the Nazcan Hummingbird is also a precise expression of the golden ratio.

Now cue the part where you say it's all just coincidental.

@Huggy

There may be actual occurences of the golden ratio due to physics reasons, where the dynamics of systems tends to bring them in such a configuration. That's evidence for there being structure in the world, but we already knew that.

I don't even quite buy it for the galaxy though, the fact that you found one example which kind of fits around the fuzzy edges is not very convincing. There are many more which don't.
The rose is just the spiral drawn over the rose without any convincing overlap.

The thing about the continents is just silly. You really need to learn about confirmation bias. If you look for patterns fitting your picture, you will find them. That doesn't mean anything.

I just measured the lines in your Earth-Moon picture, and the squared length of the upward line over the sideways line is 1.53, not 1.61 Big Grin
It's somewhat close-ish at best.

from http://www.goldennumber.net/solar-system/
Using dimensions from Wikipedia and geometry’s classic Pythagorean Theorem, this is expressed mathematically as follows:

Radius of Earth 6,378.10 1.000 A
Radius of Moon 1,735.97 0.272
Earth + Moon 8,114.07 1.272 B
Hypotenuse 10,320.77 1.618 (Φ) C
Hypotenuse /
(Earth Radius +Moon Radius) 1.618 (Φ) A²+B²=C²

not the best format but you get the jist.

Umm I can draw a simple circle and find it existing in more instances than your wiggly line.
Existence of a pattern means that pattern exists, it doesn't show a will, intent, or design.
