RE: Why do Christians trust the Bible?

It's important to keep in mind how differently very many religious people view the world than those that are logical and rational. Of course this is not to say that only non-religious people lack rational or logical thinking. However someone that requires evidence and fact for claims would not simply take any author's word on the subject just because it fits their pre-existing view of the world. I feel like many religious people simply accept things because they 'feel right' and the reason they 'feel right' is because they already have this pre-existing view of the world that assumes that fact and evidence are not required to display truth. This comes from a worldview that believes in the supernatural and that not everything requires evidence, but rather that many things simply need to be felt or experienced to determine validity. This also comes from a view that values faith over skepticism.
I am sure that there are many Atheists and/or non-believers that also fail to use rational thinking to understand the world too.
But I feel like this sort of faith based, supernatural worldview is much more prevalent amongst theists.
“Love is the only bow on Life’s dark cloud. It is the morning and the evening star. It shines upon the babe, and sheds its radiance on the quiet tomb. It is the mother of art, inspirer of poet, patriot and philosopher.
It is the air and light of every heart – builder of every home, kindler of every fire on every hearth. It was the first to dream of immortality. It fills the world with melody – for music is the voice of love.
Love is the magician, the enchanter, that changes worthless things to Joy, and makes royal kings and queens of common clay. It is the perfume of that wondrous flower, the heart, and without that sacred passion, that divine swoon, we are less than beasts; but with it, earth is heaven, and we are gods.” - Robert. G. Ingersoll

Let me ask my Atheist friends a similar question. Why do you trust what scientists have to say? I am pretty sure that all of you here are not scientists, or not even mastered a discipline of science.
Now if an astronomer says that the earth is trillions of years old, you believe it? Why? Because you trust him, and not his discovery.
In the same way, we trust the Bible and the word of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When I ask you for the proof that the world is trillion years old, you say its in the book. When you ask us for proof, we also say its in the Book. Get the idea?

We believe scientists because we can look up the information ourselves and confirm it with personal research. We don't necessarily trust particular scientists. The evidence we have is multiple peer reviewed journals. Not just one book that people claim holds infallible and absolute knowledge.

Now confirm with personal research that the big bang occurred.
Bible is not one book, but a collection of books all neatly in cohesion with each other. No amount of peer research will beat it.

Background microwave radiation is sufficient to demonstrate the big bang is a valid theory.
The bible is so far from cohesive it's hilarious you would make such a claim. Jesus h Christ in sidecar!

You want me to pull up links that talk about the big bang?
We know that the universe is expanding from a point, or points. We know how planets form, and they don't start off as globes of water floating around in an empty void. There are archaeological findings that prove events in the bible didn't happen. The bible is not an accurate historical account of the past. Its moral lessons are outdated. It's place is in the mythological section of libraries, and nowhere else, held in no greater or lesser regard than stories about Zeus and Odin and Osiris.

That's circular reasoning! The big bang occurred because that link says so. Personal proof please. Demonstration of big bang will be sufficient, or photos from the time the big bang occurred.

Any observatory in the world (properly equipped) can take a spectra of a distant galaxy and confirm the universe is expanding. With just a little more effort, many spectra of many galaxies can be taken and it will become evident that on average, the dimmer the galaxy is the faster it is moving away from us. And every observatory will see and measure the SAME THING.
Then we note there are 40,000 (really!!!!) denominations of Christianity. Is it because God speaks with 40,000 voices and each has been heard and duly noted, or is it more likely that at least 40,000 asswipes are fucking with everybody else ???
