Yeah thanks again for stating the obvious.
Point I'm trying to make is the units used....
As a drinker, I know three things:
The number of pints I've had, the strength of that drink, and the resulting number of alcoholic units I've consumed.
Yet the police measure none of those, they measure the number of milligrams of alcohol in my blood.
So, I have no access to my blood, nor a device to check my breath or blood.
So I have no correlation between the amount I drink and the no. of milligrams of alcohol I put into my blood. Plus, it varies wildly depending on when I drank the drink, how big I am etc etc.
So changing it from 80 to 50 way well be a good thing overall, but it really is the wrong message because it still says "you can still drink a bit and drive, but not as much as before"!!
absolute nonsense in my book!
Why don't you just buy a breathalyzer?
Let me say firstly, I believe it should be zero tolerance.
But again you miss the point... I know not drive more that 30mph , but if the law said don't impart more than 70N of force in a forwards direction in a metal carriage.. I'd think the law was mad... but would still try to drive safely by my own standards
PS if you're about to post a reply and your response is going to be negative, improper, average, odd, obtuse, irrational, an argument, might change the focus, going off at a tangent or just mean ... go and find a maths forum to post on instead, they'll love you !!

I guess I will have to hunt down my favorite sexy Scottish scientist (aka Noodly1) and ask him to translate the OP for me?

Sadly mixing Irn-bru with alcohol makes it taste like iron bru (a knock off i haven't seen for years)

Changing the limit from 80 ming baums per 100 fillymags of blood to 50 means absolutely nothing.
People don't know what the limit is scientifically, but it's up to that little machine, so changing the level means nothing.
It's to bring it into line with the limit of many other European countries. Can't see a reason not to do it.
I get what you mean about it not making sense to most people, people will be able to tell you how many units of alcohol are in a drink ~2.3 units in a pint, but in terms of how that relates to blood alcohol concentration it means nothing since there are several factors that will affect it.
I get what you mean, in terms of

A breathalyzer will just measure the alcohol in your breath, not in your blood. If I have a drink and immediately get breathalyzed it will give a high reading, even though very little alcohol has reached my blood.
