Science is the brother of Islam
|
Science and religion can't mix. One deals with things that can be proven, other deals with imaginary confort.
Are you hurt by insults? We are civilized enough to use words in our defense, something your correligionists respond with bullets and bombs. Wow, I just had an epiphany and feel at one with our religious brethren. Ignorance is a scary place, no wonder they need to believe in a god.

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?” Epicurus RE: Science is the brother of Islam

Also why the muslim to non-muslim ratio of this list is so high: http://www.famousscientists.org/list/ Then there's this: Quote:Science in the Qur'an? Surely you're joking, Mr. Muslim http://www.foundalis.com/rlg/Quran_and_science.htm No that we fully understand how the Quran actually relates to science, we can safely conclude that this thread is simply the result of your more mature sense of humor. But whatever religion you may subscribe to, you don't do science by looking through holy texts for authoritative answers to empirical questions.
What a train wreck. At least there aren't any bombs involved.

Not that I'm stereotyping that everyone called Abdul or Abu is Muslim of course. There's Paula Abdul and she's not Muslim. In fact she's my favourite Abdul of all time. Science, in the burgeoning Islamic Empire, appeared and then increased at rate commensurate with the empire's military adventurism.... and then stagnated as the front lines trenched in and halted their advance. Absent any further targets for assimilation which possessed significant scientific knowledge, Muslims (but more often Dhimmi) within the empire tried their hand at science, and were quickly denounced as blasphemers or heretics (particularly in Islams "Golden Age").
So...no, science doesn't "have it's roots in Islam". Science, in Islam, had it's roots with whatever culture was under islamic rule following a successful invasion. Largely, "science" within islam was more accurately-an issue of translating the works of others, but even here Dhimmi were much more proficient. This is not to say that there were no contributions to science from the people who lived under the islamic empire and -were- muslims, or that since that time muslims haven't made any contributions, of course. Our courrent "scientific tradition" if you want to call it that, owes more to Greek thought (as does the Quran) -but even here, the debt is marginal - as science has long since distinguished itself in principle and in fact from any particular culture or civilization, and what would have passed for "science" (by another name) in ancient greece (or any Caliphate) would not pass for science in a kindergarten classroom today. You've been sold a bill of goods. I'd have words with whoever told you that - they don't respect you enough to refrain from lying to you.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
Science can use some of the words from the Quran, in different orders. That's about it.
