Religious institutions complain the world is a terrible place. But they are the ones who are causing the issues and problems in the world and yet none of the followers really see what is going on.

It's a great scam, it allows you to set up power, cause needless problems so people turn to you for solutions to problems you perpetuate. Throw pretty stories to them they will blindly follow you off a cliff.

The only way to keep religion on a leash, which is all you really can do realistically is to treat it as a weapon.

By sentence structure, it refers to god. If the assumption is made that 'it' refers to another sentence, which other sentence would it be. The sentence is ambiguous, granted. I refer to god as 'it' because there is no reason to expect that god would be male or female.

It seems to be generally assumed that god does not have a pair of "its".

I wonder if that was also a reflection of the culture at the time, rather than anything that's actually true, huh helper meats?

I hate God because he used to walk around on earth, then he later unchangingly decided no one can see him ever because of various reasons.

I hate religion AS AN IDEA just like if someone thought it was a good idea to try to use a kaleidoscope in place of a telescope. As I said many times before, there is no pragmatic way to stop humans from gap filling, that has always happened in our species history, but that gap filling humans call religion is dangerous because it causes divisions and demands taboos far too much. It isn't my fellow humans I hate, it is their bad use of logic that ends up in groups humans call religion.

Religion, any religion, is repugnant because it is false and any intellectually honest person should abhor it on that basis alone. It's certainly enough for me.

All the rest - wars, divisiveness, xenophobia, standing in the way scientific progress - are due to following superstitious nonsense as fact and thinking your sky daddy's inscrutable pronouncements offers you a correct world view.

We all have our reasons for feeling the way we feel. I generally tend to hate the beliefs and not the believers. Unless they're the believers that hold those beliefs I find to be despicable, then I hate the belief and the believer...

When the preacher says "til death do you part", it doesn't mean until your husband decides to kill you. Some people may be a little unclear on that.
