Obviously I would never be such a dick as to do this, but I wonder what level of offense, or action, it would provoke? Would it be laughed off? I don't have enough experience with Muslims to have any idea.

I've worked and currently work with many Muslims. I've never seen one "laugh off" anything related to their religion. I've never personally tested their reaction to blatant disrespect of their religion, but it seems they are completely un-movable when it comes to their customs and beliefs. I'm talking - people who won't speak to, or even acknowledge a european woman at work (in Europe, nonetheless), because she has uncovered head and is therefore - a whore.
And any discussion about religious matters with most of them is completely counter-productive. They get angry even when Christians call Jesus "son of God" in their presence. Which is kind of funny, but still pretty terrifying. In fact - isn't that the reason Asia Bibi is about to be killed in Pakistan?

Doesn't sound like a moderate to me...

Depends how you define "moderate". They're regular working guys, not fighters in Middle East. I can't tell for sure what they do outside of work, but I'm betting they do the same things as everyone else. Except - more praying and less eating bacon. And some of them have more than one wife, although not necessarily in the same country.

I guess I'm curious to see how they would define themselves. I was always so shocked to hear about the beliefs of My friend's family. They were always so nice to me. We would hang out just like normal people. She would dress me in hijab just for fun sometimes but never because her family would treat me any differently when I wasn't dressed that way. I guess they secretly considered me a whore and a lot of other terrible things but they were always really nice to me.

I guess in my line of work - gastronomy - I mainly have contact with uneducated Muslims, so I don't know what Muslim bankers, or academics are like. But I seem to meet a lot of hard-headed ones, considering I live in London. And we just had a demonstration of few thousand Muslims, protesting against free speech. If there are this many "fanatics" in the capital - we are truly f-ed.

I have never been to London. There may be a difference between American moderates and UK moderates. I don't know. What scares me though, is no matter how nice and civil they are...they still believe the same things as the extremists.

That's my point. And considering that Quran and Haddiths give allowances for deceiving the infidels in order to betray them and advance islamic cause, it's difficult to tell who's a secret fanatic.

I think you're right. They'll silently tolerate you in their presence to appear "moderate" and then they'll slate you in their own minds. I have a Muslim associate and I remember him telling me how "wrong" it was to drink alcohol. I'm not telling him I'm gay, I know to my face he'll be ok but I don't want to know what he's thinking.

Side-note; I'm a bit drunk, so you're getting unadulterated Nuke right now haha

Nothing Obama said about the crusades was inaccurate. But it's dumb as hell to bring up something from 800 years ago when the problem is now.

In 2012 Sunni muslims were responsible for 70% of all terrorism related deaths.

Hey now...

How come some Muslims get to say the Hadiths are "not the word of god" or whatever? Isn't it their new testament (Kinda)? I'd call it more than a schism within the religion if you can't even agree on what is and isn't divinely inspired. Or do none of them think the death manuals Hadiths are inspired?

Pardon my ignorance on the matter if is has become apparent.

Honestly I don't know nearly enough about the Hadiths to answer that. But you're obviously aware of the several sects that all have a slightly different interpretation. Somehow it's enough of a difference to make them kill each other
