That makes no sense. You have provided no description of pastichalony, but rather used it as a descriptor and assumed one should be able to define pastichalony without reference.

Christians say that their god is good so they must have some sort of definition as to what good is. If they can't even define good how do they know that their god is good or that anything that they do is good?

Reading the old testament makes it obvious that he's violent and self centered. In Exodus, the mountain that god is on is described in a way that makes it obvious it's a volcano. If you google Canaanite pantheon, you'll notice Yahweh at the bottom.

No, reading the OT shows God's justice and there are consequences to disobeying Him. Really simple to understand. God was with Adam and Eve, Abraham, Isaac, and a host of others before He appeared on the mountain. He walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden before there were Canaanites. The Canaanites were part of the peoples at the Tower of Babel, they were a part of the language barrier God cast upon them, so yes they knew He was. Just because they, as you do, place God outside of their importance doesn't change God and who He is.

There was no death before the fall, you're being dishonest about the meaning of scripture. It stands to reason He did simply because of the interaction with their sons, besides the important thing is we continue the interaction with Him.

Quote:I'm not parroting anything. I'm telling you what I understand of what I read. It seems like the authors of Genesis already understood what death meant, and came from a culture where clothing was the norm.

Moses wrote the first five books of the OT, so of coarse they knew about death and clothing. That has nothing to do with what took place in the Garden. If you're not parroting then you show your understanding of the Bible is extremely low.

Quote:So there's no explicit explanation of what death meant, and for some reason Adam and Eve believe being naked is bad, despite nothing else wearing clothes, and Yahweh leaving them naked.

No isn't not told God explained death to them, yet they both speak as they understand what death means, they give no indication they do not. They understood nothing of lust until they came into the knowledge of good and evil.

Quote:Then he wipes out the world because fallen angels were raping women and breeding evil Humans.

GC Wrote:That's not what the scriptures say, they do say He judged mankind guilty of total corruption and there was no hope for their redemption.

[/quote]Well that's the explanation I was told. I guess that would be parroting. In that case, I'd need a different explanation for why the whole of humanity was deemed totally corrupt, yet he allowed one guy on the arc that it's implied raped his dad when he was drunk. It's kind of like the story of Lot, where the one guy they try to save is a guy that offers his girls to be raped instead of a couple of strangers.
yahweh is a bad judge of character.
Quote:The whole of mankind except for Noah and his family was judged guilty of total sinful desires, their hearts were set on doing nothing good only sinning. Mankind had fallen to a low humanity has not ever seen since, there's a day coming when it will be so again. Noah and his family were the only ones left that were not totally corrupted, the world wasn't redeemable. the influence the parents would have on their children would lead them into the same corruption, why, because they would not have had any other example.

Quote:He messed with the language of a bunch of people because he felt threatened by a tower.

GC Wrote:Right the God who can cause all the people to start speaking different languages felt threatened, parroting again. God was preventing the total corruption of man until a future time. It's quite obvious what the scriptures say on this.

Quote:Well that's what the bible says. Yahweh is worried they'd get to heaven, and that nothing would be out of their reach, so he destroyed their tower. I'm not sure why building a tower that would keep the tribes from being separated would cause them to become corrupt.

You really believe an all powerful God worried about men building a tower that would reach a place outside this world, being creator I'm sure He knew they couldn't manage to breath in space. God saw that working together they could accomplish much in a shorter amount of time, the languages divided them, isolating them long enough to cause them to not trust each other, worked too. Man couldn't over come the sin of self pride to work together, that's exactly why God separated man by language.

Quote:He brought slaves out of Egypt after making sure they weren't released before he had the chance to kill a bunch of children, down to the young of slaves and animals.

GC Wrote:

Quote:At one point Yahweh said he would harden Pharaoh's heart, so he couldn't say no. After that he killed a bunch of children.

Yes as I explained, only after Pharaoh and Egypt refused a number of times, God knew they wouldn't cooperate with Moses, they were guilty of disobedience and punished. God gave them a chance to comply with His asking, they saw His powers and refused. They put do not feed and or get to close to the bears in national parks, if one doesn't obey there are consequences to pay, either by the bears or authorities.

Quote: Then he had Moses kill some of his followers for breaking a rule he came up with after they decided to start worshiping another god of their pantheon, as polytheists tend to do sometimes.

GC Wrote:

Quote:Unless you were a Zoroastrian, you were polytheistic. There was no law Yahweh gave that spoke against worshiping other gods, in fact when snakes are poisoning them, he tells them to makes staffs with a snake's head, which is related to a different deity, to heal them.

"For I'm the LORD your God and you will not have any other gods besides Me." Any other questions? As I said before these people came from the area of the Tower of Babel, they knew the God of creation, then they decided thy wanted gods of wood and stone, why I have no idea. These people said many times that God was with Israel, He leads them into battle. They knew who He was.

Quote:A similar symbol that's put on ambulances and hospitals today.

I would imagine there were many cultures during that time that used the snake as a symbol. But, has any carried over till today, especially as a symbol of good.

Quote:Then they wander for 40 years, decide to pray to a different god of their pantheon, and Yahweh gets angry because they started doing this before Moses came down with a tablet saying they shouldn't do it.
then he had them kill people who inhabited land he wanted to give to his followers.

GC Wrote:

Quote:He's quite the petty god to kill people just because they're not worshiping him. Why is his favorite way of showing his presence mass murder?

Petty, really. God was trying to redeem these people, He took them from a life of slavery, which by the way I've never heard anyone complain about. How is it you can call God's justice murder, these people knew who He was and yet they denied Him and decided to fight against Him. God's presences has been with billions of people since Christ came and that mass murder you're so fond of judging God with is punishment for sin.

Quote:The old testament is filled with violence, and all to supposedly raise up one group of people, because he made friends with a guy once and promised him a long lineage.

GC Wrote:The whole world was filled with violence then and now, most of which has nothing to do with God, most of it is because there's no belief in the God who created. The OT shows the violence that man brought to this world and about the One who was coming to redeem mankind. God did choose Abraham as a friend, He did so to raise up a people to show the world the Savior of all peoples.

Quote:I don't really see Humans doing anything that Yahweh doesn't also do.

God is the creator of all men and man falls under God's judgement as created beings who are in disobedience. Justice and punishment go hand in hand.

Quote: I don't know why he does it, except to say he's a psychopath who acts as many people do when there's no one around to dope slap them if they do something wrong.

GC Wrote:The reason you do not know is because it's easier to parrot than to actually study and learn.

Quote:No thanks. I find the bible a poor read.

If you refuse to read and study to find the truth, then stop complaining about something you have no true understanding of. Funny how billions find it a good read even some atheist I know.

Both have everything to do with evolution - and there is a mountain of supported evidence in many different fields of science that corroborate the theory of evolution - fossilized remains for one.

There's noway that the fossil record can be anything other than speculation at best, there's no proof, no evidence, nothing. Many false statements over the years and some outright lies.

How very appropriate.

GC is just willfully stupid for god. In fact he needs to take it a step further and get a lobotomy and save everyone the trouble because no one can reason with him even with evidence and proof he still says its made up or denies it with "sources" from "Christian scientists".

@Godschild, I wish you would try to stay on topic. It sometimes seems like you are deliberately derailing threads to sabotage discussions. How did this turn into a debate about evolution? I know it's not entirely your fault. Undecided

He knew how deep this thread was getting he derailed it on purpose from its original intentions of proving if god is good or not. Clearly GC knows and anyone with half a brain can see god is not a good being what so ever.

There is precious little of truth in that collection of iron age myths you cling to in hopes of surviving the death you so fear.

Absolutely no understanding of any tested, verifiable models of reality and yet you go on and on about the ignorance of others.

Your ignorance would be astounding if it weren't self inflicted. That it is, while astonishing, is also incredibly sad.
