Atheist/Philosopher here.
Right... I'm an atheist who deeply considers morality and philosophical debates. I've got a question; is there a fee to be a member of this site? I saw somebody posting about accepting paypal, so if there's a fee I doubt I'll be around very long...

Anyway, I was "raised" to believe in some kind of god, which means my parents believe in god and they expected me to as well. I stopped believing in a deity when I was about ten, and six years later here I type. They know I'm an atheist, without much support, but at least I got them to renounce the bible after quoting some of god's "kindness". My High School is almost all religious, making my chances of actually finding a girlfriend almost zero. It's depressing; maybe I shouldn't have been so outspoken...

And nope this is a public forum, no fees. We do accept donations if you think us worthy Angel Cloud

Anyway, i've been getting quite into philosophy at the moment, especially philosophy of mind and epistemology Smile What are your favorite subjects in philosophy?

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

Hmmm...
Mostly mortality/death. For example, if I experience life from the "first person" to speak in book terms, then it'll seem to me like everything ends when I die. If I experience life from first person, then presumably everyone else does as well, but then why am I me? Does anyone else get what I'm saying?

This, I think, is why some people believe themselves to be god/jesus or whatever.

So meta-ethics and moral theory?

I'm currently pimping Desirism as a moral theory Wink It makes so much sense as the basis for morality.

Here are two podcasts with the proponent of the theory. Check it out:

Welcome to the forums and happy posting. Join in.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

The fees you must pay here are non-monetary Smile But good luck paying them Sleepy

Girlfriends are overrated if they wouldn't get to know you for the sole reason of being deviant to the norm 0.o Boyfriends too. And if it really went there: so are angry robotic ninja spider monkeys.

(1) Moral behaviour is rational.
(2) Morality behaviour is only rational if justice will be done.
(3) Justice will only be done if God exists.

Well I'm not often accused of being rational... I wonder what that says about my morals ^_^

Wait... this makes no sense. Moral behavior is rational... and then a qualifier? I take it 1 can be just taken out then? As in 1 by itself could make sense... and 2 by itself... but together? That creates a kind of dissonance.

3 goes best with 2 Smile I vote remove 1, then say it again Smile

Is it possible that 'Kant' wrote this in a different language? What was he again... latin? Cyrillic?
