Once again literal. Back then marriage was a huge deal. You weren't supposed to be touched until marriage. If a woman proclaimed purity, and lied then it showed her not to be pure of heart and in turn could be detrimental to society. Very simple. Not literal. And I'm certain that man looked at it wrong, and acted on it in haste, and assumption.

It's still a big deal to Christians, not being able to get an erection is grounds to be forbidden to marry.

Women didn't proclaim purity back then, it was expected and if they were thought lacking...Well they wouldn't enjoy the result. Didn't die of then either, plenty off Irish girls got chucked into the Magdalene Laundries just for being pretty or kissing a boy.

It's actually quite a beautiful control system for mass producing new believers isn't it?

Most people are hard wired to want sex, but they can't have sex unless they get married.
Even amongst asexuals some want companionship, but this companionship is forbidden and only accessible through marriage.

You can only get married if you agree to make lots of new believers, and if you don't follow this plan to hell you go!

I can't help but think whoever came up with this is nothing short of a genius, no wonder it caught on so quick with the Roman leadership. It's a perfect recipe for mass producing automaton soldiers while avoiding most the messy family situations that could reduce production rates and ensuring a crop from those who might not otherwise produce.

Okay. Let's humor your argument.

(1) Marriage according to the CATHOLICS is about procreation. But in REALITY, marriage is not about that. It's about how much you love your spouse. So, therefore sex is not obligatory.
(2) Your argument tries to refute the fact that the passage doesn't take into consideration certain circumstances. Are you saying a sterile couple shouldn't get married? How about an Asexual couple who don't feel sexual attraction to each other, thus being indifferent to sex, and therefore mutually don't feel the need to have sex, and most likely don't have it? Are you saying that they shouldn't get married? How about Homosexual couples? (Oh, wait, homosexuality is a sin. Oops! Sorry.) What about disabled people? Should they abstain from marriage?

There's too many problems with your rebuttal that raises more questions than it answers.

The point I'm trying to make is that the catholic church has it all backwards regarding marriage. You're not supposed to have sex before marriage, and you're not supposed to masturbate... EVER. The belief that masturbation is a sin is just plain ridiculous. Me touching myself in the privacy of my own bedroom, where nobody is watching, has nothing to do with anybody, is a highly personal act to me, and doesn't harm anybody. Not even God. I don't care if he hates it. It's none of his business. So, if I were in a catholic marriage, then no, I will not have sex if I don't want it, and I will not be obligated by a holy book written by ancient homophobic, misogynist, sadistic, racist bullies to submit, and if I want to go solo, I'll go solo. If god doesn't like it, he can kiss my @$$. Oh, wait... is that sex to him?

And I never said my girlfriend was my spouse, I was talking about if we were in a marriage. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that.
