Honestly, how would you know?  Many of us address religion the way we do because we care a great deal...just not about your religion, or your religious sensibilities. You may feel that this expresses some lack in -us-, but it could just as easily be pointed to as your feeling that your religious sensibilities should be privileged wherever you go, whomever you interact with.

If you know that making fun of someone's beliefs to their face hurts their feelings, and you do it anyway, then you don't care about their feelings. And if you don't care about a person's feelings, I don't know how you can say you care about them.

If you have a dear friend who is falling into some pretty messed up, harmful ways of thinking, you can still sit down and have a serious conversation with him and be honest with him. But there is a respectful and disrespectful way of doing it. And how you approach it will show how well you care.

Are you a flower or a human being?  Saying mean things about god hurts -your- feelings? Perhaps you should really look into why that is.......I could hazard a guess, but you won't like it.

Personally, I find that trying to let people down gently rarely works as intended...and you run the very real risk of them realizing that you're treating them as though they were a child. I respect you enough, for example..to tell you exactly what I think about your religion (and you)...and I trust that you won't shatter like fine china when I do so. Am I wrong? Care to lecture me some more about respect and caring from up there in Mt. Unassailable?

Here, let me lay this out for you, and tell me whether you prefer my jokes afterward.

You're a member of a death cult that has wrought immense destruction and misery upon countless lives over hundreds of years hoping to escape judgement for your vast sins by way of blood magic...someone -else's- blood, no less.  To me, this would seem to imply that you're made of grittier stuff than you let on - and it certainly leaves your religious faith with no grounds to complain about hurt feelings.

Yes, that's what I mean. If you think her beliefs are causing harm to her or others around her, my advice would be to talk to her about it respectfully, and just one time. Don't keep bothering her about it, and don't make fun of her about it. It's just not your place and can be very rude and annoying.

If we were friends, I would expect you not to be making fun of my beliefs to my face (which is making fun of me). This is just common human decency you learn about in kindergarten.

How did this thread become about Catholic_Lady's feelings?
