That's a great attempt - for a human. The best in this thread up to this point IMO. But nobody here can imagine such power and such wisdom. We can figure out what we WOULDN'T do, though. We WOULDN'T be a megalomaniacal nut with flaws equal to the worst of humanity as a whole and none of its best points. Maybe that's the whole reason why there are so many atheists. We don't know what God would be but we sure as hell recognize what he/she/it WOULDN'T be.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I was surprised by how impossible this question was for me to answer! I mulled over being a benevolent teacher and guide, making rape and violence and domination impossible, wiping out hunger and want . . . But you see, that just feeds into my old programming about what a deity SHOULD be, and the more you think about it, the more unworkable it is. Humans want a parent figure that WILL take care of them and reward the chosen ones for good deeds.
But what if evolution, all over the universe, is a similar process? Nature is brutal. Humans are brutal. And we define ourselves, indeed we improve ourselves, by struggling against hardship.
So I imagined a greater race or being that "seeds" intelligence, not unlike that 2001 film. (It's full of stars!) If you were a part of starting that process, you would have to have a non-interference policy. You would have to let the beings grow in their own way, and even sending messages to "prophets" about how to behave would destroy the experiment. The beings would have to be free to brutalize each other, if that was their evolutionary path. So any higher being who started the experiment would not be able to interact with their newly sentient lab rats in any way.
Grow, to take care of each other, the planet, and learn about the universe . . . or die out. That's all I came up with.

To be honest if I was God I'd be pretty evil. It would suck to be here for all eternity, having people worship you forever would get repetitive.
