I saw this story on facebook this morning and was wondering what you guys thought:

I was also wondering what you guys thought of the actual Satanic Temple religion. They're all Atheists who use the symbol of the Demon to represent personal freedoms and their opposition to the idea of God:
http://thesatanictemple.com/faq I can't open the link. It loads forever and eventually never loads. So I can't read the article but I can tell you this: it depends on the Satanism kind. There are two major kinds of Satanism the most people get confused by. Well, there are a lot more but those that confuse people are only 2:
• The devil worshipping Satanism which has nothing to do with Atheism. These people believe in everything you believe but they worship the devil instead of god. Their symbol is a pentagram like this:
Note it has two tops pointing up. It symbolizes a goat which according to those Satanists is the face of the devil.
• There's also another type of Satanism whose symbol is a normal pentagram, like this:
In pagan religions the normal pentagram was a symbol of protection. I've also heard to call it a symbol of love. THAT is the symbol of the atheistic satanists who don't believe in any entities above Human, much like we Atheists do.
So, if it's the second type of satanists that want some sort of a monument, I would let them have it.

You mean outside of the context of the ten commandments, on public land? If not, why is one ok and the other isn't?

I find the atheistic satanist intriguing. Its funny to think about how the satan of the bible just wanted to be worshiped so bad. And his whole beginning of evil was his deceiving eve to believe she was being deceived by god. Merely just intriguing though. Another thing I find funny is how satanist view their birthday as the most important day of the year and number one holiday

You mean outside of the context of the ten commandments, on public land? If not, why is one ok and the other isn't? There are different commandments for the atheistic satanists and for the devil worshipping ones.

http://thesatanictemple.com/faq What's been particularly fun for me is that Doug Mesner a.k.a. Lucien Greaves, whose been at the center of this petition (if you haven't seen his interview with Fox News' Megyn Kelly, check it out - pretty great), is a Detroit native whom my older brother has known for awhile. Apparently some years back he went to one of the parties my brother and his roommates used to have about once a month, in which I may or may not have met him (the booze and/or the drugs blur my memory, not to mention he would have just been some random dude to me that I would have been introduced to) - nonetheless I've enjoyed watching a local rise to national fame for such a hilarious yet important cause.

Yeah, but why is does that make one not ok to be put next to the ten commandments?

Because for some, particularly the easily offended, speech is only free if what is being said is agreeable.

Yeah, but why is does that make one not ok to be put next to the ten commandments? I'm not sure if I understand your question but if you're asking why is it ok for the athetistic satanists to have a monument, I'll say it's because the atheistic satanists are much like us and their agenda is NOT brainwashing, it's freedom in every sense.

Yeah, I think we've misunderstood each other. I mean why would the atheistic satanists statue be ok standing next to the ten commandments, and the other satanists statue would not?
And why does the doctrine have anything to do with it? I mean, we either allow or disallow religious statues on public ground, period. picking and choosing which ones are ok is favoritism

"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
