I love how people have this totally ironic self-defense attitude about it... they don't seem able to realise that if carrying guns was illegal you wouldn't fucking need the "good guy with the gun". Yes it should be banned, this "right to bear arms" is fucking stupid and should have been re-amended decades ago.

They have this gun-porn fantasy of stepping in and being the hero by shooting an assailant, when they're far more likely to shoot an innocent person, or miss and end up getting shot themselves.

Everyone is going to talk about motivation, terrorist, hate group influence, or mental illness. I wish people would stop taking about that, it gives the gun worhipers another do nothing excuse "don't blame responsible gun owners".

I blame the makers, not the buyers. The makers use the NRA to sell fear to keep our flooded gun market. Guns are made like candy and as easy to get legally and illegally. The makers need to get sued, not to get rid of all guns, but to make them care about how many they make and where they end up.

Large cash donations made to political campaigns to control legislation as it best suits their corporate agenda. It's called capital enterprise.

While a tragedy and all that, these shootings are not a significant part of the overall murder rate in the US. Unfortunately people don't want to take a real hard look at that and the causes of it. I think people might not like the implications behind it.

While mass shootings like this are still statistically rare, I can't remember a time when they happened so frequently (45 of them just this year).  And, of course, inner city shootings still happen with abandon, as well as accidents, suicides, etc.

While I believe that gun control needs to happen (even if it may be impossible to put the genie back in the bottle), that can't be all we focus on.  Drug treatment, treatment and diagnosis of mental issues, higher educational standards, efforts to close the wage gap... basically, we need to make a real effort to address the myriad of issues that make people feel like gun violence is the answer to their desperation and anger.

Fuck the NRA, fuck only paying lip service to all of the interconnected problems that lead to people executing deadly attacks on others, fuck false bravado and Red Dawn fantasies.  We need to actually work on this shit.  Because it's not getting better.

Fuck anyone saying now is not the time to talk about it. In 84 James Huberty murdered 23 people at a San Ysidro McDonalds. My junior HS yearbook has a picture noting that event as part of the year in history. Since then these things happen more and more. Tell us when is a good time? If you worship guns, the answer is always never and do nothing. FUCK THAT!

Yahoo news is reporting that the shooter may have asked people what religion they are before shooting.
