So the OP (and subsequent "OPs" thereafter) should give a brief discription, a character list, and set the scene. Then we take it from there with the 3 word rule.

I was thinking that too, but I feel like that would end with a bunch of stories with no ending. Or abrupt endings.

This sounds really great! We could have a rough limit, a number of posts say, which everyone keeps their eye on during the story. But we could be flexible and not insist the story cuts off exactly on that word but rather when it reaches a sensible point. And maybe it could be negotiated with the OP as it progresses, if people feel it needs much more (or less) words than previously thought. Or maybe at the OP's discretion to have a limit or not? Whatever feels right, we're experimenting

I suppose some could be silly and some more serious? When I started this, I had no idea what direction it would take. I'd be interested in a serious story developing alongside the sillier ones. Maybe we'd draw in some new talent from the forum in the serious stories. We could then also have formal breaks for ends of paragraphs and chapters. Maybe setting a number of chapters in the first place would be better than a number of words?

I'll have a think and try and start one off! Do you think we should have just one on the go, or several?

Hmmm... I didn't think of that. This could end up clogging the forum if we do a new thread for each story. Maybe as a rule, we only have one story going at once. Sort of like Mafia. And people can volunteer to kick each story off.

I like the serious material idea. Maybe included in the OP can be the intended genre, so everyone is on the same page. But! If I know this forum, it'll be hard to get everyone playing along in a particular direction, and I think that's part of the fun!

Actually having one theme for each story but one on the go at once and they didn't last forever - my idea was kind of inspired by Mafia.

I suppose the OP could be the official editor, and anything they find too ridiculous they could strike out (in case some people decide to try and ruin a story). I'm sure most people will bring their own charm without trying to wrench the story out of place. Yes, I was thinking the same thing about the genre.

OK yeah, one story at a time sounds good. I'm quite happy for one of you guys to kick off, if you come up with an idea! If anything occurs to me, and nothing has been started, then I'll post one. I don't have anything in mind just yet.
