I also don't believe in Ahura Mazda, Odin, Zeus, Osiris, or any of the other millions of gods humans have invented over the years.
There are atheists who claim that there are no gods, but those are few and far between.
Why don't I believe in any of these deities?
- The fact that there is no verifiable evidence for any of them
- The contradictory nature of many of the religious claims Are there any atheists that claim there is no God?
Retroactive question answering. Wow Beccs that's pretty impressive.

I simply suggested that you make a choice on what to believe.
Umm....somewhere along the road I realized despite all my trying that I never bumped into any god. That kind of automatically made me an atheist. I tried to resist because I didn't like it, but the more I tried to believe the more I noticed the overwhelming lack of evidence.
You mean you realized you never bumped into no God? Seriously?

But people don't, not really. Rationally determining what is most likely to be true is not the same thing as choosing what to believe. There are plenty of people who have tried to 'choose to believe' in a god but have failed because they were unable to lie to themselves in the face of an overwhelming lack of evidence.

No, I mean I realized I never bumped into any god. Your statement makes no sense while mine is easily read and comprehensible.

That was stupid. She thinks atheism is the disbelief in Gods. She's mute to the silence. An easy way to convert her is to prove to her there is a God. You messed that up.

I do not believe, with absolute certainty, that gods do not exist. I disbelieve they exist. 2 different positions on existential god claims.
I do not believe in the existence of any god or gods because the case to support their existence has never met its burden of proof.
I base my beliefs on demonstrable evidence and reasoned argument. Without them, I have no justification to believe.
Quote:I say this as a theist and a devout christian. I am seriously wonderng why you would choose to be an atheist.
I did not choose to be an atheist. My atheism was a direct byproduct of critical thinking and skepticism.
Quote:There are litterally no classifications as of what to believe. It's all a matter of choice. You indeed do choose what to believe and what not to believe, and as such I can see no reason for atheism. You wanted examples so here they are. You must choose to believe for one. You would then choose, theism. But if you do choose to believe, you are still believing something. I suggest that because you must choose to believe in theism, you are making a choice to believe. Before you ever choose not to believe in anything, you believed in God, God, God. You never made the decision to devote to pure skepticism and hiding, masks or charades. You never made that choice yet.
Belief is not a choice. It is the result of being convinced that a premise or proposition is true, or likely true. For me to be convinced that a premise or propitiation is true, or likely true, it has to be supported by demonstrable evidence and valid and sound logic. So far, no god claim has ever met that criteria.
No matter how much you try, I'll bet you can't choose to believe you can fly.
Quote:What do you choose to believe? Why do you think there is a choice as to what to believe anyway?
Is there something that comes before us that causes us to choose to believe in atheism (of all the wacko types of choices there would be to make).
And to choose to believe in atheism is not difficult, but I say this as a christian: why would you even think there is something in the past that causes us to be able to disbelieve? What in nature could possibly cause the belief in atheism even? Or will you cease to be rational and put atheism as a rationaless belief, a pure monkey hybrid kind of fact? Surely not. And surely not to there being something in our past that can cause us to (naturally) disbelieve in God.
A lot of this does not seem to make a lot of sense. Please rephrase.
Quote:I say this out of the kindness of my heart. But I don't intend on making an essay here. If I made this post a full page in length I wouldn't be suprised. It's because this is a topic that really neels down to me and suggests I make a contribution.
We christians know that the FSM is just pure hipocricy. The thing is, we know it. Why don't we take a stand to it? It's the atheists of the world that have caused "disbelief" in the first place. NAZIism and disbelief go hand in hand. We don't create it it's created. We don't choose it it's chosen. And last but not least there isn't even a choice there! You can't choose to be agnostic because that's out of the sleeve no cards in hand. You can't choose to disbelieve. Afterall, we do not simply choose to bow in prayer to the FSM do we?
It is provably false that Nazism was an atheist regime.

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

It may be your atheism that is blinding you. Afterall, I suggested many times throughout this thread that you must make a choice to believe in God.

Im sorry for not getting to your post right away, but the suspense is just killing me. The direct opposite of christianity is defined as jew burning. And that is actually defined by atheism at large. If you research this, I can make a solemn oath to you, you will not be disappointed.
