Water is a compound consisting of 2 elements - hydrogen and oxygen. Air is a mixture of gases, mainly nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide and a few others - and that's only on planet Earth, as different planets have different atmospheres. There is no such thing as "elements superior in their evolutionary level" and neither air nor water are chemical elements. Evolution has nothing to do with elements - it's a biological process. Children learn this - unless they're particularly stupid, or their parents don't give a sh*t about them. Possibly - both.
