Christians do the same thing, right? Suffering is a test of faith. Whatever happens, just keep doing what the religious leaders tell you to, and give money. Everything good that happens is because of god. Everything bad that happens is your fault. What a wonderful relationship religious people have with their god.

RE: Muslim thinks that suffering happens to muslims because Allah is testing their faith
It makes me very sad that people could think that about their God and still worship it. I find worship a ludicrous concept at the best of times, but this is seriously messed up beyond belief. God can basically do any horrific thing to them and still be called "good". That's total and utter surrender of your humanity and dignity.

Ultimately, it's just a way for people to try and account for the problem of evil, I think. It's just a particularly terrible way, to an outside observer.

It's a little hard to proclaim that your god is omnipotent, and omnibenevolent, while looking at all the horrible things in the world. Even to his most loyal followers. Ironically it is because they claim he's all powerful that we even have the problem of evil. If he wasn't, we could just say he has his limits and move on.

The more God loves you, the more severely he beats the crap out of you.

Exactly what min said. Every religious person falling on hard times takes that escape route.

God is testing my faith is the ultimate answer for all religions.  It's beautifully parodied in Peanuts with Linus and The Great Pumpkin.

If there is a god, I want to believe that there is a god.  If there is not a god, I want to believe that there is no god.

Just ask Job. Now for the more modern audience, where is their double reward? And don't say heaven, because Job got his in his lifetime. Not that he ever deserved that trauma in the first place, and not that I expect he trusted his god very much afterwards.

RE: Muslim thinks that suffering happens to muslims because Allah is testing their faith
Christians have this line of thinking as well.

The Abrahamic God sounds like such a insecure egotistic god. "I want everyone to love me, and I want them to love me even when times aren't good! I also want them to take my word that I exist, and take my word that it's actually my word" It's like the story of Job where God lets the Devil screw Job over just to win a bet. How insecure do you have to be to test to see if people REALLY love you? Imagine if a woman paid an escort to hook up with her husband to see if he'd have sex with her and cheat on her? Or if a man paid an escort to hook up with his wife. You would consider them insecure, and horrible people.

Now imagine if you were (as far as you know) single, and an attractive person of the gender you are attracted to came up to you and started hitting on you. The two of you really hit it off, and end up sleeping together. Then someone comes out and says "I can't believe you cheated on me you bastard/bitch!" That's kind of what the Abrahamic God is like.
