Hey, if I believed any of 'em exist, I could name a dozen gods and goddesses that I would be running to, asking them to save me from Yahweh!!!  I love the idea of Athena and KuanYin, Cerrunos and Bridgid, Apollo, Artemis . . . Shiva seems really interesting . . . I'd need some war gods, though, to take on Jehovah.   Mars?  Kali?  -- But Satan doesn't exist, of course!

Athena is a favorite of mine, too. Goddess of Wisdom.

However, you're forgetting that she's also the goddess of warfare:

"Athena (/əˈθiːnə/; Attic Greek: Ἀθηνᾶ, Athēnā, or Ἀθηναία, Athēnaia; Epic: Ἀθηναίη, Athēnaiē; Doric: Ἀθάνα, Athānā) or Athene (/əˈθiːniː/; Ionic: Ἀθήνη, Athēnē), often given the epithet Pallas (/ˈpæləs/; Παλλὰς), is the goddess of wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, mathematics, strength, war strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill in ancient Greek religion and mythology. Minerva is the Roman goddess identified with Athena. Athena is known for her calm temperament, as she moves slowly to anger. She is noted to have only fought for just reasons, and would not fight without a purpose."

Ooh good!  Thx, Rocket.  Ok, for my team, I'll take the girls:  Athena, Artemis, Morrigan, Bridgid, KuanYin and Kali.   GO TEAM!

Lofty indifference is the only attribute that strikes me as a likely attitude for a "supreme being". Here's a notion of a god I could at least respect, since worshiping such a being would be beside the point:

“The artist, like the God of the creation, remains within or behind or beyond or above his handiwork, invisible, refined out of existence, indifferent, paring his fingernails.”

-- James Joyce (from A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man)

The Abrahamic god, on the other hand, is so vain, petty, and human in its supposed attributes that it's laughable. Then again, that character is nothing more than the reflection of its inventors and latter-day toadies.

Hopefully you know that nature and reality are not coequal terms. As I recall, I'd have to dig in my library for the source, Popper acknowledged the need posit the existence of nonmaterial substances.

I also suggest that you take a few moments to read about logical positivism. Your point of view sees like it matches that. You may find it helpful to examine the presuppositions about rational inquiry that you take for granted. At least then you would have a better understanding of both the weaknesses and strengths of relying entirely on a narrow means for evaluating sensory data.

I am sure that Evie is familiar with logical positivism. You can talk theories of knowledge, philosophies of science, and name drop until you are blue in the face. None of it even comes close to evidence of a supernatural God. Sorry. And if your comeback is that we currently have no scientific avenues to reach god's reality, well, that is a pretty sad argument in favor. It is way more generous than you ought to be.

Chad,

I have a microscopic leprechaun who lives on the tip of my thumb, and dances the jig all day. Wait, you don't believe me? Why not? Just because you can't see the microscopic leprechaun dancing on my thumb, that doesn't mean he doesn't EXIST! There is more to this world than what we may see with our eyes alone!

Oh, so you looked at my thumb under an electron microscope and...what do you know...there was NO microscopic leprechaun dancing on my thumb...well...that's because he can't be found through empirical scientific methods. He is a part of the nature of reality that we lowly humans haven't figured out how to access. THAT's why you can't see him. But he's definitely there!

Chad, can you honestly say that the next logical step in a sane person's train of rational thought is to simply conclude: my tiny leprechaun MUST certainly be real? Am I the only one who sees a gap the size of the Grand Canyon here??

I think I've had too much coffee...

That exactly the subject Sagan and Druyan tackle, in their book The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark, except the example is the invisible, undetectable pink dragon in their garage. Essentially, though using lofty words and "deepity", what Chad is promoting is magical thinking. It's really no different from every other type of woo-woo... "If you believe in the power of herbal healing, then you'll be healed" ... "Tarot cards can determine your future" ... "There's a faerie world beyond what you can see in the natural world" ... "Jesus can heal you if you just believe" ... "Lord Shiva created the universe, is beyond all space and time, and will destroy the world at the end of days" ... and so on, and so on, ad nauseam.

Lying for Jesus is still lying.

Obviously some Pagan Satanist Atheist Foot-rapers wrote the whole internet and the dictionary. You can tell Satan wrote it because neither of those books is the Bible. Obviously  Confused
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)
