Trinity?

The Christian idea of the "Holy Spirit" is that it's a part of God that inhabits the hearts of all Christians who have accepted Jesus. Seriously.

There's no real equilavent of Holy Spirit in Islam. There are some refferences to "The Spirit" and it is widely believed -by scholars- this refer to Gabriel but there's no consensus. For an ordinary muslim Gabriel is the messenger angel. His main duty to deliver Allah's messages to prophets.

How can theology be a valid subject without first assuming God's existence?

Religion is in our life for thousands of years and it affected our culture especially in literature, knowing theology would help understand literature works better.

Theo-logy = The study of God. My point is, how can you study God without assuming that he exists first?

theology is not limited to study of God. It also works on religions, religous tradition...etc. All research you do about a religion is part of theology.

RE: Trinity?
I was referring to the "study of god" part.

Hence why I said:
Quote:How can theology be a valid subject without first assuming God's existence?

and
Quote:Theo-logy = The study of God.

(emphasises added)

Today it may not be limited to the study of God, but that is the original etymological meaning, which is what I was referring to, hence why my original question was relevant. ("Theo" is from "Theos" which means "god", and "logy" I believe is from "Logos" which means "logic", the two together meaning "study of god").

It depends on which definitions we are using.

RE: Trinity?
No. I don't make up my own definitions, I just accept the fact that the same word can have multiple definitions (for example, "light" can mean the opposite of "heavy" or the opposite of "darkness"), there's a difference.

When that fails to be recognized the Equivocation Fallacy can step in.
