How did you become an atheist?
#81
RE: How did you become an atheist?
Everything finally fell into place for me when I heard Creationist Cat's version of The Bible Reloaded theme song. Skip to 0:54 or play from the beginning the get the full scoop. If you're not an atheist after hearing this, there is something medically wrong with you and you should seek an immediate slap in the face Tongue

Having logic and common sense at a young age after reading the bible none of it made since and what tiny
bit of faith i had even then after i had finished reading was gone.

Look, I'm not being obtuse I'm being technically correct: There is no sub-definition of "atheist" that means "used to be a theist but lost belief in god", no definition of "atheist" specifies specifically loss of belief in gods.

Point is I didn't become an atheist, but I am an atheist and I'm an atheist by every definition of the word itself.

And the type of "atheist" I am by every definition, is a weak atheist. But regardless, by any definition of "atheist" I am an atheist, and I don't think I've ever believed in god.

If you're talking about me here:

1. I'm not being an asshole, I'm telling you why I think you're wrong that I'm not an atheist just because I never believed in god.

2. I never said you can't ask me about it, that's why I told you about it.

3. I am not narrow-minded... but perhaps you are if you think someone is an asshole just because they disagree with you.

It's an underlying meaning of the word. Many atheists happen to be former theists, that's a fact.

Instead of arguing about this so much why don't you tell me how you would've phrased the wording of this thread so as not to sound too pedantic and at the same time be accurate enough so as not to attract wiseass remarks? Constructive criticism instead of pointing out obvious stuff and lingering on the meaning of words I fully comprehend without you giving me a lecture about it. It's another thing altogether that you have such a low opinion of my intelect that you think I don't understand what you're trying so hard to convey, but I'll overlook that in the interest of making some progress, instead of bickering about meaningless stuff.

Or perhaps you explode every little thing I say for dramatic effect.

I'm hardly dramatic. This didn't have to be complicated. When you objected to the definition of "atheist" I was using and I explained I'm an atheist in every sense of the word, it's not my definition, it's the dictionary's definition, you could have just admitted you were wrong... And then that would have been the end of it.

Point is, yes I never became an atheist, but I'm still as much of an atheist as anyone else. Are you going to admit that?

This was my quibble with the question in the first place: It assumes everyone used to previously be a theist. It's a loaded question. It should instead be something like: "Former theists who lost your belief, how did you lose it?".

The problem is always that you have trouble admitting when you're wrong and conceding a point, and you call me an "asshole" for merely disagreeing with you. I am not an asshole. At all.

The dictionary definition doesn't have to point out that it describes ex-theists too for you to understand that it does. And as such I was referring to that subset definition in this thread.

At the end of the day, you're still an asshole for taking issue with it. Very much so.

I shouldn't have to include you in my thread for you to take a hint that it's not about you.

RE: How did you become an atheist?
I always admit when I'm wrong. You never seem to understand my point in order to call me out on being wrong to begin with. The problem is, I usually understand your points. Because I'm apparently smarter.

Go ahead, bitch about how I'm being narcisstic or something like that. And I'll make fun of you by filling out whatever role you assign to me in your own confusion.
