(February 20, 2016 at 8:32 am)Excited Penguin Wrote: Guys, I notice you've been talking about which movie we're going to watch next. I recommend we do this right here, so we don't use two threads at once which might get cumbersome at one point. If you think we're ready to watch another film then we can very easily start talking about it right here.

But if you think we should do this in the other thread, O.K. My opinion isn't any more valuable than any of yours. It's just a suggestion.

Now, other than the fact that I won't pick another movie until everyone else has got their turn as well, I'm not exactly sure in which order we should pick the movie or how. I hope you guys figure it out, but myself, I thought I'd just agree with any option that looked promising to me after considering everyone's choices and cast my own vote in that direction - if we're going to be voting. And if one choice gets the more "votes" we watch that one. - This is basically what my suggestion is. Tell me what you think Smile.

P.S. No matter what we choose I won't be making any suggestions this time around. If we go with the option that everyone gets to pick a movie no matter if everyone likes it or not, than we will all have to wait our turns to pick a movie, for example I'll wait until we watch Aroura, Sterben's and Heat's films before making my own suggestion again.

But even if we decide that we are all allowed to make our own suggestions each time around and that the one suggestion that the most agree with wins, I'm going to abstain from making my own this time, since I think it's only fair - after all, I just picked the film and we hadn't exactly figured out how we're going to pick the films in the future, so it wasn't exactly "legitimate", it just happened because my own suggestion was the only one that anyone agreed with (Aroura- and Sterben to some extent- in this case), so for practicality's sake, we went ahead and watched it.

I think taking turns is easiest.  Voting unanimously will be hard, as some people may not be abl to participate every week, and it would just be so time consuming.
As people nominate movies and we watch them, the order for taking would be created for next time around.  So far, if everyone agrees to Coherence, it would be you and then Heat. The rest of us will just politely get in line. Smile

Great, I guess we have a majority.

I think it's Heat's turn to organize us since we're going to watch his movie. It's not mandatory, though, I'm glad to do it if you don't want to - or don't have the time.

Might I suggest we talk about the period of time we're going to be watching it in, again?

I think people should be active in the thread if they want to have a say in what we watch, and then it won't be so difficult anymore. But that's just my opinion, if you want to take turns, let's do that, but do remember you said it yourself that if someone picks a really shitty movie we'll just say we don't want to watch it. So... how would that work then Undecided

Again, I see what you're saying and it's fair, but think about that one time that someone will inevitably have us watch some really bad movie that no one will want to watch. Will we just watch it anyway, then, or just make that same person pick something else until we agree with him/her?

Eh, what am I saying. For now, I think it's reasonable to trust everyone involved with their picks. So after Heat's movie, we'll watch Aurora's and Sterben's (in whichever order) and then start with me again, unless someone else joins us in the meanwhile. So let's just go with Aroura's idea for now, I say.

I think we shouldn't make overly complicated rules, or no one will participate.  To make it as enjoyable as possible.

Person nominates a movie
If no major objections are raised, one weeks is set to watch said movie.
Every Saturday, new thread on movie is opened for discussion, and next movie is nominated.

There, it's simple.  Some weeks no one will watch the movie.  It's going to happen.  No biggie, it's for fun, and as long as no one makes a big fuss, then we'll just move on to the next movie. Smile

I mean, if you guys think that sounds reasonable, of course. Smile

I agree with you and a week sounds just fine to me. It allows for others to catch up and discuss the previously watched movie in the meanwhile. Not to mention we can continue discussing it until then as well.

Just one more thing. Heat, you'll have to make a thread for Coherence on the 27th.

Well, let me start by saying I'm really shit at breaking down a movie and the subtle metaphors that might be at play under the surface.

I pretty much agree with Heat's take though (that did add a lot of interesting new angles and explanations to things) and I thought it was a decent 2 hour long exercise in mindfuckery.

What the hell was the group at the start of the movie meant to be though? And the security guard saying he 'needed to go back'.

What a strange movie. I may need to rewatch at some point, and read on some theories. This one made me raise an eyebrow (apparently it's all about a race of spiders taking over humanity?) http://www.slate.com/blogs/browbeat/2014...denis.html

Thanks a lot for linking to that article. I agree with it.

I find the allusion to totalitarianism fascinating.

I have a suggestion, Aroura. What if we create the thread for the next movie right now and that way anyone who watches it before the deadline can go and start talking about it. That way no one has to wait for anyone else, and anyone who takes the whole week to watch the movie will still be able to read the thread and join the conversation as well- if only later. We'll still watch only one movie a week, but this way we can start talking about it during that week as soon as we watch it.

So once a movie is accepted as the next, the thread is created for it?  That works for me!  So, do you want to start each thread or should we wait for Heat to create the next one, since it was his movie sugestion?
