My point was that the only reason there are more attacks on white people is because 80% of the population are white. The fact there's almost as many on black people when 80% of the population are white is relevant.

I don't even really understand the term white privilege since the definition of privilege is a special right, advantage or immunity granted only to one specific person or group.

I don't know what specific right, immunity or advantage white people have as a group, globally, in America or in the UK.

There's poor white people so we don't have the special right, advantage or immunity against poverty, there's white people in prison so we don't have get out of jail free cards as an entire group.  Maybe there's rich celebrity white people who avoid prison, there's probably rich Arabs or Mexicans who avoid prison in some part of the world purely based on their money.

Yes white people do go to jail and white people are poor, but most of us don't or aren't. Minorities are the opposite. Simple multiplicative maths will tell you that, given the figure of 80,000 attacks on 20%* of the population, to have the same proportionality of attacks on the 80% that would mean they would need to suffer 320,000 attacks in the same period.

* That's assuming the study is looking at white and non-white UK residents, if the study is looking at e.g. Afro-Carribeans against white people, then the number will be a lot higher.

But then the definition of privilege is if it applies to a specific group. Asians on average have a higher income and are inprisoned less.
I know you say Asians are white, that's the first time I've heard anyone say that. But that being the case there's Indian Americans who earn more on average than white people in America. That's not native Indians that's Americans from India, also Iranian Americans.

Also the fact that less white people are in prison on average is just a fact and doesn't necessarily give advantage to a white person. If a white person is in prison for life without the possibility of parole he has no advantage related to less white people being in prison or poverty rates among black people.

If white people have an advantage for being white it has to be pretty much universally applicable to all members of the white race.

It also overlooks the facts that there are other reasons people are poor or in prison other than the opportunities they have available or what's been granted to them. Like personal decisions, moral vales and so on. Unless you look at it from some determinist perspective and say everyone was destined to be where they are.

I think you have a pretty deep misunderstanding of what white privilege is and isn't. If you have two sprinters in a 500-meter race, and spot one of them a ten-meter head start, it still doesn't guarantee that runner the victory.

In the same sense, white privilege is not proof against poverty or jail time. But being white avails me of many opportunities that help me avoid poverty and eschew a life of crime.

Correct a runner who's given a head start may not win, and you're correct I don't understand what white privilege is.

I'm making the point that a counter-example doesn't negate a reality on the ground. Simply because there are poor white folk doesn't mean that there is no such thing as white privilege.

I don't pretend to speak or know of global circumstances. Here in America I've benefited from access to a better education, which led to better employment, which allows me to avoid the pitfalls of life that other, non-whites have a much harder time avoiding. I get better treatment from the police when I get stopped.

You're acting as if white privilege is a legal construct. It isn't, here in America, any more.

But it does exist as a social construct.
