RE: Catholic Church Opposes Removing Statute of Limitations for Child Rape

Also, there's a reason I stopped posting on AF. Being pregnant makes me extra emotional and quite frankly I don't want to deal with being outnumbered with the negativity/hostility thrown my way and directed at my values and my people, especially given what went down last month. Nothing wrong with disagreement and discussion, just wrong time wrong place for me.
I was made aware of this thread and was asked to put in my 2 cents by a friend, and so I did. I don't have much left to say. I'm not going to sit here as the only Catholic on an atheist forum and defend myself during this stage of my life.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

You're right. Defending sex abuse of children is not a job for a woman. That's probably why you're not allowed to be a priest...

The statute of limitations is probably the primary reason that people get away with child rape; of course the Catholic Church opposes it.
Verbatim from the mouth of Jesus (retranslated from a retranslation of a copy of a copy):
"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you too will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. How can you see your brother's head up his ass when your own vision is darkened by your head being even further up your ass? How can you say to your brother, 'Get your head out of your ass,' when all the time your head is up your own ass? You hypocrite! First take your head out of your own ass, and then you will see clearly who has his head up his ass and who doesn't." Matthew 7:1-5 (also Luke 6: 41-42)

I'm surprised to learn it still has a SoL anywhere. But then I should stop being surprised considering how many surprising things I've learnt lately.

Vatican archives document abuse cases going back 1500 years.
I realize it sounds snarky, but this problem will never go away, and a serious look needs to be given towards accepting the reality of pedophile priests and regulating/accepting/controlling the abuse rather than this futile battle against it.
Kids can be selected, evaluated, possibly even be compensated (or their parents) and the priests would be required to observe some guidelines when they are doing it.
Assigning a specific kid to a specific priest would be a start. Just reining in the number of kids affected could be accomplished relatively quickly and easily with just a little bit of supervision and control instead of the anything goes 'unsystem' we have now. Priests would need to be screened for communicable disease (pay attention Jewish circumcising rabbis!) and the kids could be medical screened when assigned and evaluated periodically too.
May not be a perfect solution, but it is looking more and more like we just don't have any more options.

I agree. It's clearly what God wants. Many Catholics are happy to pay for it to keep happening, and to send their kids along for the ride. If it's going to happen, let's do it properly.

Well, looks the priest shortage has been fixed now . . . . .
