Did you know that if you rob a store like 7-11 that's part of an interstate chain you can be charged with a federal crime?

In Trump's case the AG is blowing smoke.  He's part of the "Stop Trump" cabal.

they wouldn't hit that button.

I've been paying attention to politics since I was 18, I am 49 now. I've seen your standard mudslinging from both parties and "flip flopping" in both parties. That politics is normal. What Trump is doing is very dangerous regardless of party. It is a very apt description to equate his hyper nationalism and scapegoating that lead to the rise of Hitler and is the same propaganda tactic Un uses to silence dissent. I am not saying that just because I hate him, I am saying that as a comparison in political history.

Now again, right now, our system of checks and balances is in tact, and no, he could not suddenly become a dictator himself. But if other politicians in either party from the local to state and congressional level start using that same tactic, that can and will lead to long term damage. He really should scare the shit out of anyone who values western political pluralism. He is setting a very bad tone that neither political party should adapt just to win.

Brian I think the US system of checks and balances is part of the problem, in that it makes it too easy to stymie the workings of government. If you ever look at the likes of Hitler, they always rise at periods where the then current system is paralysed and unable to do anything to solve the problems facing it. And what do we se in the US, a republican party using the overmighty pkwer of the minority group to paralyse goverment, moreso when the Democrats are in.

Be glad ye got Trump and not somebody effective.

Quote:‘This is straight up fraud’: New York’s attorney general shreds Trump University on ‘Morning Joe’

Quote:“Trump’s role was really a the pitchman,” he said. “And we’ve got his videotapes, and we’ve got his sworn testimony which undercuts every statement in the videotapes. He said, ‘My hand-picked experts will teach you my personal secrets.’ He and the president of the university have already testified under oath he never met the instructors, they weren’t hand-picked. They weren’t experts — some of them came out of fast food and retail. And he had nothing to do with the supposed secrets that were taught because he had nothing to do with the curriculum.”

This and the presidential tilt to me look like Trump's a gambler who's hard up for money, and throwing his last dice before the mafia come for his kneecaps. Don't be to suprised if he declares bankrupt again if he loses in November or a huge fraud scandal erupting about his administration if he wins.

In short, they need fear. They feed on it like vampires because that's their only merchandise. You always have a massive crisis at your hands when they rise. With Hitler it was the great depression. In 1928 he got something like 2 percent in the elections. In 1932, the NSDAP was in the 30ies.

Right now we face a similar situation. People fear for their jobs and their livelihoods. The rightwingers offer the easy solutions by resorting to the same old recipe of scapegoating. Hatred against others is all they have in stock, and the constant assertion of their followers belonging to a special privileged group, that should take over. That way, even Jonny No Name can feel special.

I endeavor to not limit my sources of news and opinion on current affairs to echo chambers. It's also well known that the Koch brothers had to sue The Cato Institute a few years ago because they were at odds with the institute's dedication to maintaining an independent political affiliation. The agreed board restructuring limited the Koch's direct influence. Saying that the institute is nothing more than the Koch brothers' propaganda mill isn't accurate, particularly when it comes to social issues.

Yeah, they're known to be rather open on social issues. The question is if that's enough to let them off the hook, given their politicial record - otherwise known as bribery.

They're supposed to be Libertarians, well maybe they are, but they push the candidates, not looking too closely at what the Koch brothers do. Understandable, and one can say, it's the system's fault, but that doesn't diminish their detrimental influence on environmental and labor issues.
