Religion may very well be evil but God is not. Jesus said to "love your enemies", "do good to those who hate you", "if some one strikes you on the side of your face, turn the other side to them". He would not let david build the temple because he had "shed much blood in the earth".
Religious violence comes from people who are not focused on God, or try to change the world with out inviting God along for the ride.

Have you even read the Old Testament, or do you just parrot out what your preacher has told you?

Plus the quote, when in context has to do with the fact that if you're backhanded it's an insult, but if it's the other side it's not. Or something. I forget the details.
But it essentially didn't mean what we think it means today.

Where's the evidence to SUPPORT God? There's plenty of evidence against God. Believers can play the 'faith card' and its certainly hard to argue with anything so ignorant that it needs no evidence to support it, but because of the evidence against it....so far God looks extremely unlikely to exist!
