Communism is an atheist movement, in the sense that it supports no religions.  

The word you're looking for is "secular", not atheist.

As long as the thread is being necro'd anyway, I'd like to clarify this. Communism was secular in the sense that it wasn't based on religion or spirituality (though many of its early leaders had cults of personality), but it wasn't politically secular, which would have been, as a policy, government neutrality towards religion, neither promoting nor oppressing it.

The Soviets moved in that direction when they revised their constitution, but the communist League of Militant Atheists really deserved the adjective 'militant', as they were granted authority by the Central Committee to give anti-religious dictates to the military, schools and universities, and more. They can be credited with the destruction of thousands of historical religious buildings. At the height of their power, they were instrumental (lot of overlap in their membership and COMPOL) in a decision to purge priests and committed supporters of the church.

Fortunately, the government moderated on religion and the League was disbanded.

i haven't read all 210 replies, but if all Nazis claimed to be catholic or christian, they certainly didn't follow christian teachings and morality.  They were obviously not followers of Christ, which is what "christian" means.

It's not that they all claimed to be christian, but who are you to determine who's a real follower of christ? For me, most American Republicans with their bootstraps ideology aren't followers of christ. There's nothing about help the poor of the needy in their ideology. They only take the ugly and exclusive parts, such as policing individual sexuality and try to turn that into law.

So what is a true follower of christ?

The necro (and OP) is pointless, though. An attempt to associate christianity with nazis. The association is redundant, in context. Christians and christianity have done more harm than the Nazis could have dreamt of. Chalk it up to longevity.

I don't determine who is a true follower of Christ, but I can know what Christ taught and see that the Nazi leaders weren't following those teachings. As far as American republicans, you don't know most of them, but only how the media portrays them. If we knew each other I think we could come together far more often.

Rosenberg,

One of the reasons why Rosenberg was so easily brushed aside by the other Nazi bigwigs was that once Hitler realised that he was anti-christian he had nothing more to do with Rosenberg. Without access to the Fuhrer Rosenberg found it a lot harder to protect his patch.

From what I can gather what would have happened religionwise would be that worship of the christian god would eventually and gradually replaced with Hitler worship. Even by the start of WW2 there was a serious cult of Hitler being built by the NSDAP, but it would have taken long rule and probably not happen formally until after Hitler himself died.
