The Last Movie You Watched
RE: The Last Movie You Watched
The first Purge was too insular on one family who continuously fucked up throughout the movie. I hate comparing the Alien series to the Purge series, don't think it's a fair comparison since I thought the Alien series was mostly done right and the Purge series was produced very sloppily with a poor director.

So, I went and saw Sausage Party. It was pretty damn funny, but the best part was that it pretty much mocks religion and believing things without evidence throughout the whole movie. I think a lot of people here would appreciate the overall themes it explores.

Oh, and it's raunchy as hell.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell

While some of the newer 3D films are using it as a gimmick (see the lame Oz film from Disney), using anything that can to have stuff "pop off the screen", many are using it to add a layer of realism. I haven't (yet) seen the lates Star Trek, but "Into Darkness" was a good example of that.

"Layer of realism"? alright.... it does add depth to the pictures... but it's mostly irrelevant to the story... hence my usage of "gimmick".
Mind you, I have no idea how you can make it integrate with the story as a way to make it relevant.

I'm in no way saying it a necessary part of enjoying a film. But, like CGI, it can make it easier to enjoy a film. Good 3d effects are at the stage CGI was 20 years ago. As the technology improves, it'll be integrated more and more seamlessly.

Isn't that the point of any special effect?

Star Trek, beyond. Beyond, well beyond, disappointing. A second rate hour long television episold stretched to theater feature presentation length. Episodic indeed.

Haven't watched anything in a while, though I do have a list of movies bookmarked. Been too lazy.
