Atheist fundamentalism?

RE: Atheist fundamentalism?
Fair enough. No problem Giff.

I grew up with atheists, I was an atheist. I don't think it's like Christianity because that requires taking a radical change of perspective. Atheism being purely rational can be considered by anyone at any time. Not that this deters from atheism at all.

Were you? So, on the assumption that you were an atheist of the same kind of character as you are now would you be good enough to point out a few pieces you wrote or forums you posted where you defended or promoted your claimed atheism?

RE: Atheist fundamentalism?
The label of fundamentalism achieves nothing. As an atheist, I believe that the possibility of god existing is very, very unlikely, nothing more, nothing less.

By calling my belief 'fundamentalist", a person achieves nothing. They'll usually do so to make me uncomfortable due to being unable to find any evidence to unseat my atheism.

I don't think atheist fundamentalism can exist, for if it's on the basis that one adheres to rules, then everyone is a fundamentalist, which achieves nothing. If one is talking with an atheist who is dogmatic and unreasonable, they might call it fundamentalism. But really what's happening is both parties are misunderstanding what atheism entails - simply non-belief in god or gods.

Well spoken. Agree with you there.

Dawkins has been called a fundamentalist and not only atheist fundamentalist but also a scientific fundamentalist.

Must be becasue of his clear opnions about religion. He just say what he thinks, which is quite a bold thing to do acctually.

Exactly. These days, 'fundamentalist' is simply a word people use to try and attack someone's character. Very rarely does anyone use it with the true meaning in mind. Rather, it's just an attempt to discount what someone says.
