That's because a significant slice of his support comes from fundamentalist Christians who will support anyone the Republicans put up (or would before, lol). They don't mind bigotry, indeed some revel in it, but being sexual is verboten.
I said at the beginning of the year that we're seeing the split of the Republicans. This is just one more hammerblow on the wedge.
