looking for an intilectual sparing partner

RE: looking for an intilectual sparing partner
Hilarious

The "hive mind" around here is abuzz with intelligence and the sting of rigorous logic, but I hear it's good for stiff joints. Wink

p.s. You shouldn't use the bible as a sword, it's a far messier and more inhumane tool of war than an actual sword. Thumb up

As I only get involved in discussions like this in the open forum, I won't be taking you up on your offer.

Hope you get what you're looking for.

And I pray that, whether or not you get what you want, you at least get what you need.  Peace be upon you.

Now Chad, that isn't very Swedenborgian of you.

I think their job is bashing the heads of His fallen enemy's infants.

Sorry, I cannot be of any help to one clearly no where near as intelligent as me.

Sorry i just don't believe you. What i mean is, i'm not convinced that one could be so noble as to set their bias aside for the sake of truth. From the biblical world view, you don't want god. You think god is a big meenie! Hmph! >Sad

This is false. I'm sorry you don't accept our claims of what atheists personally believe. Coming here and telling us we believe otherwise doesn't help anything, though.

This is what I do instead (although I borrowed this from TAE). I ask people what they believe and why. I don't tell them what they do or not believe, because that would just be cutting them out of the conversation.

For example, you have said that you believe in God. I am going to listen to what you think about that God instead of just comparing you to other people who believe in a god. I am willing to take your word on that. From that point, we can have a conversation about it. It would do me no good to claim that I don't believe that you believe that.
I don't believe you. Get over it.

For example, no I don't believe your flavor of genie exists -and- no, I don't claim for a fact it doesn't .. whatever it may be. But more than that I just really don't care.

Ironic, considering that theistic faith is based on zero evidence.

Okay folks, we're getting close to the boundaries of the introductions forum.

OP, if you'd like to have a discussion about any of these topics, please create a thread in the appropriate subforum.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

Not theistically by the alleged originator of Christianity: John 10:37 "If I am not doing the works of My Father, then do not believe Me. 38 But if I am doing them, even though you do not believe me, believe those deeds, so that you may know and that you may believe that my Father is in me and I in my Father.”
