You know...that's probably a factor in -all- word usage. Terrific is one of my favorites. Invented to describe exactly what it looks like...used for the opposite. It's called amelioration, btw (iirc). The etymology of that one coming out to roughly ..."more, better, stronger"...... as in, "so terrific, it's fucking awesome"...hence the modern usage of terrific.
 Totally not a derail, because amelioration of "derail".

YEAH lol!
Words develop mostly through the usage of the majority and the majority are mostly dumb fucks who can't use the language properly.
And that's why language makes no sense.
