Would Bernie Sanders have done better against Trump than Clinton? Many people, including me, thought Sanders would do worse because of his very progressive ideology. But perhaps ideology isn’t as important a factor in voters’ minds. Given Trump’s victory, being an outsider may have trumped an ideology that some might see as extreme.

Sorry if it's not the right time to even think about this, but there you go. That's what I'm thinking now.

There are a lot of people who practically foam at the mouth when her name is mentioned. The sad thing is, she is a lousy candidate but would have made a good President, assuming she had a Congress willing to work with her. But there were too many red flags about her -- some legitimate, some manufactured by her enemies. A Biden/Warren ticket, I think, would have whipped Trump.

And then there's Bernie.

It never seemed that Bernie had a snowball's chance in hell of winning, but now I have to wonder. Trump tapped into a sort of latter-day Know Nothing populism that fed on economic insecurity and class resentment. Given how virulently anti-elite, anti-establishment the mood is, perhaps Sanders was the only Democratic contender running this year who could have beaten Trump. He certainly would have given some of Trump's supporters pause as he made a populist case to their better angels.

I know, 20/20 and all that. But still . . . .

I can say this with certainty: I never again want to hear about a candidate who is "supposed" to get the nomination just because he/she has been around X number of years and has played ball. Fuck that. It's time for the Democrats to do some serious soul searching and produce their "How the Hell Did We Blow This?" autopsy report.

Obama may prove to be an historical anomaly -- a charismatic pragmatist who had the good fortune of running in the wake of Bush and the mess he made. But Obama aside and assuming Trump wins, in the last 16 years, the Democrats will have managed to lose three Presidential elections to two of the most beatable opponents ever.

Wasn't everyone saying during the primaries that Bernie had a better chance against Trump? I think he would have appealed to many hard working people who got hit by the economy and who voted Trump because they feel elitist Clinton will not care for them.

He did have a better shot at beating Trump it would have been a landslide of a election.
Next election if Jill Stein and Bernie teamed up it wouldn't be a fair election at all.

Maybe the DNC and the democratic party will learn from the fiasco and pay more attention to workers' sorrows?

Haha good joke.

The Democratic and Republican party just imploded because of these results.

I don't know that this is so much a victory for Trump as it is a big fuck you to business as usual. People are going to be shocked by what their vote bought them. Once you dispense with business as usual, you have to replace it with something. Trump's somethings amount to a bunch of shit. The country is going to learn that things can be worse than business as usual.

Yeah it's a good thing Hilary was the chosen candidate and not Bernie, isn't it? Isn't it? All those establishment media hacks were wrong!

Hopefully the DNC will learn a harsh lesson now. They got complacent and underestimated Donald Trump. They underestimated how much Hilary is hated. People are in an angry mood and they are sick of fake politicians like Hilary. Bernie would have won easily against Donald because people like him. But the DNC installed Hilary because they are selfish and arrogant.
