What does your mom/grandma bake for you?

My mom does not bake. I do. My grandmother , however , could have opened her own bakery. She baked a lot but her pies were the best.

Looking forward to my sweetheart's apple pie.
No, that isn't a double-entendre. (January 1, 2017 at 8:27 pm)chimp3 Wrote: My mom does not bake. I do. My grandmother , however , could have opened her own bakery. My grandparents are dead and I don't talk to my parents. So... nothing.
I'm interested in getting into baking, though. We'll see. (January 1, 2017 at 8:33 pm)mcolafson Wrote:I love filo. I make excellent spanikopita. Well, all three of those wonderful ladies are dead, but Mam's speciality was barmbrack, a kind of soda bread made with dried fruit. Glorious.
Granny Shannon got away before I was born, but I have very fond memories of Granny McPhee's fadge (and no, not a double entendre, either - fadge is a potato cake which is baked and then pan fried. Serious comfort food). Boru

We can include here our aunts...
I remember visiting my aunt and she made somsa pies (she got the recipe from her Uzbek neighbors) with pumpkin and lamb kidney fat. Delicious
My great-grandma Hannah made some amazing fresh peach ice cream.
